Quick Impressions from Seahawks 24-3 win over Dolphins

When all else fails, the Seahawks can always rely on the defense. On a day when their offense struggled, the defense stood tall and strong. While the offense was sputtering, the defense kept constant pressure on the Dolphins quarterbacks. The offense came to life in the second half, with 60 rushing yards, bringing the team total to 100 yards. Despite the offensive struggle, head coach Mike McDonald was pleased with the outcome.

“It was sloppy a little bit operation-wise, which we want to definitely need to address moving forward. Tell you what, our guys played incredibly hard. You got complementary football towards the end of game in the red zone and played really great red zone defense, and the offense getting in that backed up situation was redeeming to say the least,” said  Macdonald. “Then going down with a 98-yard touchdown drive pretty much sealing it was pretty awesome. So, again, just the mentality, how hard our guys are playing, felt like we played physically.”

SEAHAWKS PASS RUSH IS DOMINANT

Despite the loss of Leonard William ( rib ) and Bryon Murphy ( hamstring), the Seahawk’s defense continued its pursuit of the Dolphin’s quarterbacks.  With the loss of their counterparts Dre’Mont Jones,  Jarran Reed, Jonathan Hankins all stepped up their and hunted and hounded Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle. Boyle replaced  Thompson after he was knocked out of the game  in the second half.

The relentless pressure by the front seven saw the  Seahawks limit the Dolphins to just 140 passing yards. More impressive was keeping the Dolphins to just 65 rushing yards.    Safety Julian  Love believes the team is headed in the right direction and needs to improve every game.

“I think we showed that we’re capable of everything, really. Getting after the quarterback, getting after the ball. It’s just continuing to be cohesive and build on that each week.”

MAFE  AND HALL  HAD A DAY OF IT.

The play of Boye Mafe and  Derick Hall played a crucial part in the Seahawk’s defense. Mafe followed up last week’s five tackles, one sack, and quarterback hits with three tackles, another sack, and two more quarterback hits. Hall had his best day as a Seahawk, with two tackles, five tackles, and four quarterback hits. The Seahawks had 12 quarterback hits as a team.

RUN GAME IS STILL AN ISSUE

Anthony Bradford played the majority of snaps at right guard, and he played decently. Despite all the issues , the Seahawks offense delivered when they needed a long grinding drive. After the defense stopped, the Dolphins stopped on  4th and goal, and the offense relied on an 11-play, 98-yard drive that ate up  5:27 seconds of the game. The back-breaking drive ended with a 10-yard run by Zach Charbonnet, his second score of the game.   While Charbonnnet’s touchdown run was the only score of the second half by either team, it was by far the most important.

“We always talk about closing the gate, for the offense. That was kind of our moment right there to be able to close the gate and go put seven, “ said Charbonnet.” Just be on the attack right there. I think we did a great job. Defense played a great game today. Even after that, they just continued to keep getting stops all day. So, I give a lot of credit to the defense.”

Ken McIntosh took over for   Charbonnet on the next series  and had three carries to seal the game. They  were his first NFL carries.

“ Yes it’s about the team and winning but I was glad to help the team and I know my mom will be happy.” McIntosh said after the game
