After assessing the injury to outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu, the Seahawks added depth at the position with the acquisition of Trevis Gipson from the Jaguars. Nwosu left Saturday’s preseason game with a knee injury after a chop block from Browns lineman Wyatt Teller. A chop block penalty was called on the play, and Nwosu laid on the ground for a few seconds, then seemed to hustle off the field on his own but was later taken to the locker room and finished the game on the sideline with a wrap on his knee. After the match, Mike Macdonald said he did not know the severity of the injury.
COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE
On Monday, it was disclosed that Nwosu had suffered an MCL sprain and would miss two to six weeks but would not require surgery. The injury is a devasting blow to the Seahawks’ defensive plans and Uchenna’s immediate future.
Nwosu had an excellent training camp and fully recovered from a pectoral injury that ended his 2023 season after he started the first six games of the season.
ADDED DEPTH AND TALENT
The acquisition of Gipson from the Jaguars for a sixth-round pick adds some depth and talent at the position while Nwosu heals. Gipson spent last season with the Titans, appeared in eight games, and recorded one sack. The Jaguars signed him in March. Before playing for the Titans, Gipson spent his first three seasons with the Chicago Bears. The 6 foot 3, 259 Gipson played his collegiate career at Tulsa and was drafted by the Bears in the fifth round of the 2020 draft.
