The Seahawks and the Titans wrapped up their two-day joint practices on the hottest of the two days. In addition to the hot weather, there were plenty of heated competitive battles on the practice field. In addition to the physical battles, attendees witnessed some classic trash-talking between some familiar friends.
The trash-talking was between Quandre Diggs, Jamal Adams, and Devon Witherspoon. There were other taunts, but none as spicy as the banter between the trio. With the Seahawk’s offense on the field, Adams shouted to Witherspoon, ” You better watch Sam Howell. That sorry-ass offensive line is going to get Geno Smith killed,” to which Witherspoon replied, “You all better come over here and help your offense because we are kicking their ass.” Believe you and me, that is the PG version. According to Witherspoon, trash-talking was between friends who mutually respect each other.
“Oh yeah, you know how we do. Jamal (Adams), that’s my boy, my dawg so that we can talk trash to each other and it’s nothing but love. So, that’s why he and I do that all the time.”
BACKING THE TRASH TALK
Give credit to Witherspoon and his defensive mates for backing up their trash-talking. Right after the trash-talking exchange, the teams went into a situational two-minute scrimmage, the Seahawks ‘ first-team defense lining up against the Titans’ number-one offense with 1:40 left on the clock and the ball at the Titans’ 40-yard line. In the first play, Titans quarterback Sam Levi’s pass was intercepted by Witherspoon, who jumped the route and rambled down the Titans sideline looking for Adams. Upon spotting his former teammate, Witherspoon handed him the ball, much to the chagrin of Adams and unbridled laughter from the Seahawk’s defense and sideline. As for the interception, Witherspoon was looking for Adams after the pick, and Witherspoon said the play spoke for itself.
“He was ducking me, he was hiding from me, he (was) just talking trash, so you know I was coming to see my dawg. But yeah, I was looking for him so I could get him the ball and show him that’s how you do it, for real. That’s how you really run this defense.”
In addition to Witherspoon, Riq Wollen had a good day of practice and an interception. During the last two days, the Seahawk’s secondary has shown a great understanding of the expectations of Mike Macdonald ‘s defense. Safeties Julian Love, Rashawn Jenkins, and cornerback Tre Brown were making plays when defending the pass and run.
OFFENSIVE LINE BATTLE
A battle for reps at right guard has ensued between Anthony Bradford and Christian Haynes. On Wednesday, Haynes took the starting reps to the right guard. McDonald’s has preached competition, and the two are locked in neck and neck battle. “Like I always said from the beginning, it’s a competition. I wanted to see what Christian (Haynes) could do with the ones,” said Macdonald when asked about the switch at right gu
George Fant lined up at left tackle, Olu Oluwatimi at center, Laken Tomlison at right guard, and Charles Cross at left tackle. The center position will soon have a battle of its own once newly signed center Connor Williams is a full practice participant. Williams was on hand Tuesday but nowhere in sight Thursday.
NON PRACTICE PARTICIPANTS
Eskridge, Mike Morris, and Zach Charbonnet were the only practice participants on Wednesday. Pharoah Brown did not finish practice due to an undisclosed injury.
