Offense rules the day on Day Six of Seahawks training Camp

Day Six of the Seahawks training camp went to the offense, which had its best day since the team put on pads for the second day in a row. With Laken Tomlinson given a veteran day off, Christian Haynes was inserted at left tackle with the first team. While the rookie held his own against the first-team defense, it was the play of Charles Cross that stood out.

The third-year guard from Mississippi State battled Uchenna Nwosu on several plays and enhanced each other’s games. With the offense winning the day Charles Cross was given the Championship belt. An award given to the unit or player that shined that day.

“Shoutout to Geno (Smith), I was talking to him. Well, offense won the game and he said ‘Give it to an o-lineman. Charles (Cross) (has) been having a great camp., ” said Mike Macdonald after practice.

” The belt is something that’s kind of fun to just mix it up and spice it up throughout camp. You know, ‘who’s holding the belt?” And then we can change the criteria of how you challenge it. We got a bunch of them. They’re legitimate belts, they’re kind of heavy. They’re pretty sweet-looking but I think the guys get excited about it. It means something to carry that thing around the building for a day or two as you’re the through, not around champion right now, as the offense is, which is pretty cool.”

ADDITIONAL CAMP NOTES

Geno Smith had another stellar day with the offensive line, giving him time to scan the field and find his talented receivers who were making jaw-dropping catches. DK Metcalf’s one-handed catch in the corner left endzone brought cheers and claps from the crowd on hand. One of the players responsible for  Smith having to scan the field was center Olu Oluwatimi.

The second-year player from Michigan has made that visual jump from year one to two. He has been fundamentally sound in his reading of the defense , calling out the right blocking scheme and executing his blocking assignments.
