The confines of T Mobile Park were the perfect backdrop for the Seattle Mariners’ Friday night 8-1 hit party over the Oakland A’s. Dylan Moore led the Mariner’s hit explosion with five career RBIs. The M’s exploded for five runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the bottom of the seventh for good measure.
The game started as a pitcher’s duel between the Mariners Bryan Woo and the A’s Paul Blackburn duel as both sides could not get on the scoreboard for the first four and a half innings. After Woo pitched a scoreless fourth, the Marines broke the game wide open with their five-run hit parade in the bottom of the fourth inning. Dylan Moore’s two-run homer led the Mariners four four-hit barrage.
Woo left the game in the fifth inning as a precautionary measure and was replaced by Trent Thornton. “He was awesome thought he threw the ball well”, Mariners Manager Scot Servais said after the game .” When he came out there for the fifth inning, it was a long inning — we put the runs up before that — and it was tight. It wasn’t loose and there is no point in pushing it right now”
Woo struck out three and walked one batter, threw 62 pitches in his first outing of the season.
HITS CONTINUE
The Mariners continued their hitting barrage in the bottom of the fifth inning picking up two more runs on Moore’s two-out single extending the lead to 7-0 The precession of hits was too much for Oakland Manager Mark Kotsay who yanked Blackburn and inserted Tyler Ferguson. The pitching change was of no avail. The Mariners picked up another run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mariner relievers Thorton, Kirby Snead and Cody Bolton kept the shutout until the top of the ninth inning when the A’ scored their lone run of the game.
With the win, the Mariners are now 9-6 over their last 15 games and 15-8 over their last 23 . The Mariners have won six consecutive home series openers and ar now 16-3 when scoring four-plus runs in a game this season.
