Seattle Reign FC players will be busy during the April International Window

The NWSL April international window will conclude on April 9th for the Reign FC players. The Reign had six players partaking in international duty. Jordyn Huitema for Canada, Jess Fishlock, Angharad James-Turner, and Lily Woodham for Wales, Ji So-Yun for Korea Republic, and finally Emeri Adames joined the USA under-20s. 

Jordyn Huitema and the Canadian team began their run in the She Believes Cup on April 6th, they faced off against Brazil both teams fought hard, and the decision came down to penalties. Canada came away with the victory, 4-2 was the penalty score. Having won the semifinal, they will now face the USA on April 9th at 4 pm. 

The Welsh team began their international break strong with a 4-0 win against Croatia. The Reign’s Jess Fishlock and Angharad James-Turner both scored, Fishlock in the 4th and 49th minutes and James-Turner in the 56th minute. Wales will play their last game of this window on April 9th against Kosovo. Both matches serve as qualifiers for the 2025 Euro, as Wales face a long road to the tournament; each win will be incredibly important to their success.

Korea Republic has two friendlies against the Philippines during the break. Ji So-Yun will play an important role in the team as usual, she has proved herself yet again by scoring in their first matchup which was held on April 5th and ended in a 3-0 scoreline. Korea had a dominant performance in this first match up, with 67.2% possession and 27 attempted shots to the Philippines 4. They will look to continue this in their next match on April 8th. 

The Reign’s 18-year-old Emeri Adames has been called up to play on the United States Under-20s roster for their trip to Germany. On April 5th the US faced Germany. Both teams struggled to score against one another, and the game ended in a 0-0 tie. The US then went on to face Canada on April 7th in Germany, the game ended 3-1 for the US. With one win the U-20s will be headed back home after an eventful trip.

Seattle Reign FC will return to play on April 14th when they will visit Bay FC for the first time in club history. The next Reign home match will be on April 21st against the Chicago Red Stars. Both matches will help set the tone of the first half of the NWSL 2024 Season. Each international player is an important part of the Reign squad and will be integral to the upcoming games.
