The Seahawks continued revamping their roster in week two of free agency. The team added depth and a potential starter at safety with the addition of Safety K’Von Wallace. Guard Tremayne Achrum Jr. and DT Johnathan Hankins were signed to bring depth and competition on both sides of the trenches.
REVAMPED OFFENSIVE LINE
The Seahawk’s interior line will look completely different in 2024. Three starters have moved on or are looking for employment with other teams. Center Evan Brown, and right guard Phil Haynes are free agents, and left guard Damien Lewis signed with the Carolina Panthers.
The team signed center Nick Harris, tackle George Fant, and now Anchrum Jr. The 25-year-old Anchrum spent the last four years with the Rams after they picked him in the seventh round of the 2020 draft. In the four years with the Rams Anchrum appeared in 31 games with one start.
“I wanted to come somewhere where there was opportunity,” he said during his signing at the Virginia Athletic Center. “There’s a lot of admiration for this organization, how they play ball. Coming from the Rams side, I’ve always watched them week in and week out because we play similar opponents and everything like that, and when I saw who they hired as a head coach, I was like, OK, they’re retooling for a really good year and to be a really good franchise going forward. I want to be a part of something special.”
CONTINUING TO BUILD IN THE MIDDLE
After successfully re-signing Leonard William the Seahawks continued to beef up their defensive interior with the signing of Hankins. The 6 foot-2,320 pound Hankins is a mass of humanity that should help stuff up the middle and make it difficult for teams to pass and run the ball against the Seahawks.
Hankins spent the last season and a half with the Dallas Cowboys. In 2023 Hankins was a starter from Week one to Week 14, was inactive for three weeks, and returned for the Cowboy’s regular season game playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers. While with the Cowboys Hankins worked with Seahawk’s current defensive coordinator Aden Durde. With the addition of Hankins the Seahawks list Jarran Reed, Cameron Young, and Matt Gotel as its three nose tackles.
SOLIDIFYING THE REAR GUARD
The signing of Wallace makes three the number of safeties the Seahawks have after the release of Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams. Wallace joins holdover Julian Love and recently signed Rayshawn Jenkins. The former fourth-round draft pick by the Eagles in the 2020 draft was waived after two seasons and spent the 2023 season with the Cardinals and Titans.
Wallace played a total of 17 games between the two teams and posted career highs with 89 tackles, six passes defended, and one interception. Signed to a one-year contract the 2024 season will be an audition for Wallace to show Mike Macdonald his consistency as a starter.
