UW Athletics faces another leadership change after Troy Dannen bolts for Nebraska

Just six months after replacing Jen Cohen as the University of Washington Athletic Director Troy Dannen is moving to Nebraska to assume the same role. Dannen’s move to Nebraska leaves the Washington Huskies Athletic Department in shock and damage control. The department saw former head coach Coach Kalen DeBoer bolt for Alabama and the loss of his assistant coaches. The storm seemed to have subsided when Danned hired Jedd Fish to replace Deboer and was leading the search committee for a new men’s basketball team after firing head coach Mike Hopkins.

MOVING ON

Despite the drastic changes in the athletic department in the last year school president Anna Marie Cauce is confident the school is a good place moving forward.

Leading this program is one of the greatest opportunities in the country. We’ve seen time and again how Huskies compete and win on the national stage and we are grateful for the strong support of Husky Nation, who have positioned us so well for the future. And with Coach Fisch joining our group of talented coaches, who are leading teams of incredible student-athletes, our future is bright, Cauce said in school press release.

“I look forward to recruiting a leader who is committed to the goals and values of Husky Athletics,” Cauce said in a news release Wednesday, “someone who will lead Husky Athletics into the Big Ten and build on the successes of recent months and years.”

BIG MONEY TO MOVE ON

Dannen has issued a statement saying that the decision to leave Washington for Nebraska was personal and it would bring him close to his Iowa roots.

Dannen’s contract with Nebraska was first reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Nebraska will pay him a $1.6 million base salary, which will increase by $100,000 during each of the next five years, according to the Omaha World-Herald. His contract includes four stay bonuses beginning in 2027, along with additional performance incentives.

At Washington Danne’s contract was $1 million with annual 2% raises, along with performance bonuses.
