A day after the release of Will Dissly, Jamal Adams, and Quandre Diggs the Seahawks added nose tackle Bryan Mone to the list of veterans waived by the team to save money and increase their salary cap budget.
By releasing the 28-year-old Mone the Seahawks will save $ 5.39 million in their salary cap and take a dead cap hit of $500,000. Mone’s story is similar to that of Adams in that a promising career was derailed by injuries.
Signed in 2019 as an undrafted free agent Mone played four games and was re-signed to a three-year 1.75 million dollar contract that average $585,333 per year. Mone’s playing time increased in 2020 ( 10 games) 2021 ( 14 games) and 2022 (13 games). After the 2022 season, Mone signed a two-year $11, million dollar extension averaging $5, 517.500. In Week 15 of the 2022 season, Mone suffered a torn ACL and was placed on the injured list to start the 2023 season.
SPENDING CAPITOL
After waiving the four veterans the Seahawks now have $41.6 million in available salary cap space. While the release of Adams and Diggs has left a big void in the defensive back unit, that is not the case with Mone. The team’s primary nose tackles from last year are under salary. Jarran Reed will be entering the finals season of his contract while Cameron Young, a fourth-round draft pick from Mississippi State will have at least three years after signing his rookie.
