The Seattle Seahawks officially announced the hiring of their top assistants Tuesday afternoon. President of Football Operations and General Manager John Schneider and Head Coach Mike Macdonald announced the hiring of the team’s top assistants
- Aden Durde (defensive coordinator)
- Ryan Grubb (offensive coordinator)
- Jay Harbaugh (special teams coordinator)
- Leslie Frazier (assistant head coach)
- Karl Scott (defensive passing game coordinator/defensive backs)
- Scott Huff (offensive line)
- Kirk Olivadotti (inside linebackers)
And yes Schneider was given the title of president of football operations making it clear that Schneider will make the final call when it relates to on-field personnel decisions. Former head coach Peter Carroll held the president of football operations and it was he who had the final say regarding personnel decisions. While Schneider will make the final decision he will consult with Macdonald just as Carroll did with him.

GENO SMITH DECISION
The team will need to make a decision regarding Geno Smith by this Friday. If Smith is on the roster he is guaranteed his base salary of $12.7 million and will receive another $9.6 million if he is with the team on March 18th which would be $31.200 million for 2024. Smith’s salary eats up 12.6 % of the team’s salary cap. If he is released before Friday the Seahawks will carry $17.4 in dead money for 2024.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Seahawk Nation would be shocked and in disbelief if the team suddenly up and cut Smith. With the majority of the coaching staff in place where Schneider intends to take this team with Macdonald will become very clear in the next few months. The team will try to take care of its own and add to a solid base as they see it.
