SuperBowl teams get down to business

The San Franciso Forty Niners and Kansas City Chiefs were able to begin game week for Sundays showdown on Wednesday afternoon a their respective base camps. The Niners are staying at the Hilton Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, while the Chiefs will be about a mile away at the Westin Lake Las Vegas.

CHIEFS PRACTICE OUTSIDE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF GOOD WEATHER

After arriving the teams fulfilled their pre-week obligations which included Monday’s media day kickoff. On Wednesday the Chiefs had a 96-minute workout at the Raiders Intermountain Health and Performance Center it was his teams second practice of the week . The practice session was  held outside for the first time. Monday and Tuesday were unseasonably cold and rainy in Vegas. Head coach Andy Reid called Wednesday’s practice a ” mental day, a good polish day.”

“This is a normal Wednesday for the latter quarter of the season,” Reid said as his players left the grass practice field. “It’s a lot of mental work. Recognition, going through the plays, formations. We just cut back on the speed of it. We came out on Monday, and we were in full pads. Then yesterday we did just a quick get out of the hotel and go through more reps with the plays. Slow pace. Then today, we did this part.”

All of the Chiefs players were available except for Joe Thuney  who has been ruled out with a pectoral injury. Nick Allegretti will get his second consecutive start in Sunday’s game. Allegretti started at left guard during the AFC title game.

“I would probably bet towards Allegretti playing,” Reid said. “For Joe [Thuney], it’s a strength thing. Right now, it’s not strong enough.”

NINERS REPORT

The Niner’s first pre- SuperBowl workout was similar to the Chiefs in length. The Niners completed their 90-minute work out at UNLV’s Fertita Football Complex. Like Reid Niner head coach Kyle Shanahan was glad to see his team get back to a regular game-week routine after giving players Monday and Tuesday off.

“I’m glad to finally get out here,” Coach Kyle Shanahan said. “We got here Sunday, but it feels like we’ve already been out here a week.”

The Niners had an early team meeting before Wednesday’s nonpadded practice. A team huddle that was broken by linebacker Fred Warner scattered the players into individual warmups and positional drills. A 25-minute team period followed the positional drills, which were then followed by a special teams session. Another team unit closed out the team practice

INJURY REPORT

Tight end George Kittle (toe), defensive end Arik Armstead (knee/foot), cornerback Ambry Thomas (ankle) and linebacker Oren Burks (shoulder) were all limited in Wednesday’s workout.
