The offense is on a roll and the defense continues to struggle. The Seahawks are lacking consistency on both sides of the ball and that is why the squad is 2-2 record. Despite the penalties, bad tackling, and lack of execution the Seahawks have a chance to win two games in a row for the first time this season. Sunday’s game at New Orleans will be a tough match for the Seahawks. Despite their 1-3 record, the Saints are a good team that is getting healthy after being decimated by injuries.
HOW WILL THE SEAHAWKS STOP ALVIN KAMARA?
The Seahawk’s run defense is ranked 29th in the league and that is a generous statistical ranking. Against the Lions, the Seahawk defense gave up 520 total yards, 145 of which were on the ground. More astonishing was the Seahawks giving up 7.9 yards per play. The Seahawks caught one break in that Saint’s Quarterback Jameis Winston is side-lined for another week which means Andy Dalton will get a second straight start.
Dalton had a decent game against the Minnesota Vikings passing for 236 yards one TD and averaging 8.4 yards per completion rate. Where the Seahawks did not catch a brake is in the backfield. Running back Alvin Kamara will be back after missing last week.
MULTIPLE THREAT
Kamara has not been healthy since week one, missing week two, and last week. An integral part of the Saints offense, Kamara will multiple touches of the ball as a running back and receiver. Despite playing only 12 games last year Kamara rushed for 898 yards and scored four touchdowns, he also recorded 439 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Seahawks rookie cornerback was asked just difficult it is to defend Kamara
CAN THE SEAHAWKS CONTINUE THEIR RUNNING WAYS?
The Seahawk’s offense had its best rushing game of the season last week against the Detroit Lions. Rashaad Penny rambled for 151 yards on 17 carries and scored two touchdowns. The team’s total rushing yardage was 235. The offensive line will need to take another step forward against the Saints. The Saints have the 12th-ranked defense. The Saints will be looking to make the Seahawks one-dimensional on offense. The Saint’s pass defense is ranked 9th and the run 20th.
If the Saints can stop the Seahawk’s run game their elite pass defense will tee off on NFC Offensive Player of the Week Geno Smith. Seahawks OC Shane Waldron the key for the Seahawk’s offense will be tough and aggressive play from the offensive line
One match-up that could tip the game in the Seahawk’s favor will be the DK Metcalf and Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore.
CAN THE SEAHAWKS STOP THE BIG PLAYS?
The penalties continue to be a big issue for the Seahawks along with giving up the chunk yards. Last week fresh from the win over Detroit head coach Pete Carroll was adamant that the team must stop the big plays and vowed a major focus for this week was stopping the big plays. Against the Lions, the Seahawk’s defense’s top three chunk play giveaways were for 81, 51, and 31 yards. Carroll’s strategy during the week was an open competition. Boye Mafe saw 32 snaps against the Lions and Carroll said the rookie linebacker will see more action against the Saints. Also up for more playing, this time is Ryan Neal.
