As expected, the Storm came out of the gates aggressively and that aggression saw them build a ten-point lead halfway through the first quarter. The Storm’s 17 to 7 lead was short lived as lethargic defense saw the Dream out score the Storm 8-3 to end the quarter down five points at 15-20.
The Dream continued with their hot shooting hand to start the second quarter and scored the first seven points of the quarter to take a 21- 20 lead. A basket by Ephiphanny Prince snapped the Storm’s scoring drought. The Storm never really found it’s offensive rhythm for the rest of the quarter. Storm head coach Noelle Quinn tried to rally her troops by getting her first technical foul as coach .
The Dream went on a 13-0 on run and cut the Storm’s lead to just four points at 60-64 in the third quarter. A three-point trey by Stewart gave the Storm 67-60 lead with 3:35 left.
Ezi Magbegor had another solid showing since returning from health and safety protocols, scoring 19 points on 5-for-6 shooting including 2-of-2 from three-point range, and adding seven rebounds and five blocks. She also connected on a pair of three-pointer For Magbegor, who leads the WNBA in blocked shots at 3.1 per game, recorded at least five blocks in a game for the second time this season. Over her last two games, she is averaging 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, 2.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.
The Storm held Atlanta to 10.5% shooting from three.
It was head coach Tanisha Wright’s first game at the helm for the Dream back in Seattle where she played nine seasons and won the 2010 WNBA Championship as a player.
The Storm finishes its franchise-record eight-game homestand with a 5-3 record and now hits the road for its longest road trip of the season, playing five games in four cities over 10 days. The trip begins with a pair of games in Dallas on Friday, June 10, and Sunday, June 12.
