• Sounders FC becomes the first MLS side to win a Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League title. Four MLS teams previously had reached the final: Real Salt Lake (2010-2011), CF Montréal (2014-2015), Toronto FC (2018) and LAFC (2020).
• Goalkeeper Stefan Frei recorded his fourth shutout of the competition and was named both Goalkeeper of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament. In eight appearances in 2022 SCCL play, Frei allowed just five goals and recorded 26 saves.
• With his brace, Raúl Ruidíaz finished with three goals in 2022 SCCL play, tied for fourth in the tournament alongside teammates Jordan Morris and Fredy Montero. He has 64 goals in all competitions for the Rave Green since arriving in Seattle during the summer transfer window of 2018.
• Ruidíaz has now scored against three Liga MX opponents for Sounders FC: Pumas in last night’s CCL Final second leg, in addition to Tigres and Santos Laguna in last season’s Leagues Cup.
• Nico Lodeiro’s 88th-minute strike gave him three goals across the two Final legs against Pumas, following his late brace in the first leg in Mexico City. Seattle’s captain finished the tournament with five goals, second behind only Pumas’ Juan Dinenno, who led the competition with nine goals. He also finished tied for fifth with two assists in the tournament.
• Last night’s sellout crowd of 68,741 broke the all-time Concacaf Champions League Final attendance record for a standalone match. The Seattle fans that packed Lumen Field surpassed the crowd of 66,208 that watched the 2014-2015 Semifinal second leg between Club América and Herediano at Estadio Azteca.
• The Lumen Field crowd was also the largest of the 2022 Champions League tournament, breaking the mark of 56,094 set during the second leg of the Semifinals between Cruz Azul and Pumas, also at Estadio Azteca.
• Additionally, tonight’s attendance was the second-highest in Sounders FC history, coming in just behind the 69,274 that watched the Rave Green claim the 2019 MLS Cup on home turf. It marked the ninth time over 60,000 fans have packed Lumen Field for a Sounders FC match, with the club going 8-0-1 in those games.
• Sounders FC is now 8-9-4 all-time against Liga MX opponents in SCCL and Leagues Cup play. • Despite not recording one on Wednesday, Cristian Roldan led the 2022 SCCL tournament with five assists.
• This marks the eighth major trophy Sounders FC has won since entering MLS in 2009: four Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cups (2009-2011, 2014), one Supporters’ Shield (2014), two MLS Cups (2016, 2019) and one Concacaf Champions League (2022).
