CORE RETURNS

Sue Bird, Jewell Loyd, Breanna Stewart, and Mercedes Russell were all free agents. After a few months of sleepless nights for Storm Nation, the pieces began to fall into place early in 2022. The announcement of Sue Bird returning for her 19th year with the club was more than any  Storm fan could wish for.

With a Bird in hand Storm, fans continued wishing for a reunion of the big three. As they say, wishes do come true, and in a span of three days in February  Storm fans were downright giddy with euphoria when Mercedes Russell re-signed followed by  Jewell Loyd who signed a two-year contract. On February 2nd the team announced the acquisition of seven-time- All-Defensive guard  Briann January. The move left Storm fans with okay but what’s up with  Stewart? Later that afternoon the Storm announced that Breanna Stewart had re-signed a WNBA Max contract.

“We are so excited to have Stewie and her family return home to Seattle as she continues to grow her legacy as one of the best to ever play the game,” said Talisa Rhea, Storm General Manager. “Stewie is a leader for this franchise on and off the court and her commitment to excellence, resiliency, and her championship mindset continue to inspire all of us around her.”

The announcement sent Storm Nation into a state of Nirvana.

Before the Storm Nation had a chance to pinch each other to see if they were dreaming the  Storm announced that it had acquired forward Gabby Williams from the Los Angeles  Sparks in exchange for forwarding Katie Lou Samuelson and Seattle’s first-round pick ( no.9 overall ) in the 2022 WNBA draft.
