The Seattle Storm and its fans received the worst of news late Friday afternoon. A team press release confirmed that Breanna Stewart will miss the rest of the regular season after suffering a left leg injury in Tuesdays night game against the Washington Mystic.
The lone glimmer of hope according to the release was that Steward would be re-evaluated before the start of the postseason.
The Storm have two regular season games left. Sunday at Los Angeles Angeles vs the Sparks and the home finale against the Phonenix Mercury on Friday September 17th. The Storm have already clinched a playoff berth with the third best record in the WNBA.
The post season will begin two weeks after the Mercury game and give Stewart two weeks of rehab and recovery time .
Stewart was averaging 20.7 points per game, the second-best in the league, and 9.9 rebounds per game, the third-best in the league, headed into Tuesday’s game.
