A weekly look back at the last Seahawks game with notes, quotes, and stats.
The Seahawks suffered their second consecutive preseason loss Saturday to the Denver Broncos in 30-3. This week’s edition is focusing on the Seahawk’s potential roster moves.
INJURY UPDATES
If losing the game wasn’t bad enough the Seahawks we’re hit with catastrophic injury news Monday. Linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven and wide receiver John Ursua suffered serious knee injuries in Saturday night’s game. On Monday the severity of the injuries was revealed. Both players will miss the upcoming season and were placed on injured reserve.
The Seahawks also waived quarterback Alex McGough and Cedric Lattimore placing the team at the 80 player mark ahead of Tuesday’s NFL Mandated deadline.
POTENTIAL REUNIONS
The loss of BKK immediately sparked calls from Seahawk Nation for the team to re-sign fan favorite K.J. Wright. The ten year veteran played his best last year and last week debuted at # 67 on the NFL Networks 100 Top Player.
During the offseason head coach, Pete Carroll has always left the door open for Wright to return by saying we will see. With the team thin at the linebacker position, we will definitely see how desperate the Seahawks are to bring back Wright.
Another reported potential reunion for the Seahawks is with tight end Luke Wilson. The eight year veteran spent his first five years in the league with the Seahawks then Detroit for the 2018 season and returned to Seattle in 2019. Last year, Wilson spent the first six games with Seattle and then finished the season with the Ravens. With tight ends, Tyler Mabry and Colby Parkinson dealing with injuries another reunion looks likely. Wilson is reported to have visited the VMAC Monday morning.
SEAHAWKS CONTINUE TO SEARCH OPTIONS ON IMPROVING DL
In addition to bolstering the team with familiar faces, the Seahawks are reportedly looking to bring in a new face to the defensive line. The Seahawks are taking a look at signing defensive lineman Geno Atkins.
If signed by the Hawks Atkins would be reunited with former teammate Carlos Dunlap. After an injury plagued 2020 season the Bengals released Atkins in March saving $9.5 million in salary cap.
Atkins started 134 of his 161 games as a Bengal, recording 75.5 sacks – most in franchise history by an interior lineman – and 172 quarterback hits.
