BREAKING: Seahawks and Jamal Adams agree on contract extension

The Seahawks and safety Jamal Adams have agreed on 4 -year $70 million deal that will make him the highest-paid safety in the league according to  ESPN’s Ian Rapoport.

Several sources reported that the Seahawks and his representatives met during the team’s trip to Las Vegas last weekend. To everyone’s satisfaction, the trip was fruitful.  While it was also believed the two sides would get a deal done sooner than later seeds of doubt were beginning to creep in if one believed all the media hyperbole.

LONG TERM ACQUISITION

The Seahawks acquired Adams in trade from the Jets in July 2020   for two first-round picks in 2021 and 2022. The expectation was that the Seahawks would sign Adams to a long-term deal. When Adams transformed the Seahawk’s defense playing on the defensive line, linebacker positions and various cornerback spots the expectations were heightened. Adams led the team with 9 ½  sacks.

With  Adams under contract this season to the tune of $9.86 million there was speculation they would use the franchise tag on Adams for the upcoming season if a deal could not be worked out. Since he was under contract  Adams was  “ holding in “, attending meetings and walkthroughs but did not take part in physical practices.  If the Seahawks had franchised Adams he would have made $13.55 million in 2022  and $16.26 million in 2023 according to projected NFL  positional salaries.

But all of that is water underneath the bridge and the Seahawks can check that box and move on to making something happen with  Tackle Duane Brown who is also  “ holding in” .
