Sights, Sounds, notes, and one big take from Sounders 6-2 demolition job of the Timbers

The Seattle Sounders put on an efficiency clinic in their 6-2 win over Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers Sunday night at  Providence Park. Sunday was the  113th all-time match between Portland and Seattle with the rivalry dating back to 1975  when both clubs participated in the North American Soccer League.  The Sounder’s six goals against the Timbers are the most Portland has allowed at home since 1975.

FAST START

The Timbers as expected started out on the front foot using the electric energy created by the home fans.  Portland had the run of play for the first  10 minutes using its left side to attack the Sounders right side.

The Sounders were able to sustain the pressure with tight marking and quick outlet passes from the backline to the middle of the field then out to the wings. That is exactly how the  Sounders scored the game’s first goal.  To be quite frank once the Sounders started scoring they could not stop.
