Once back in the groove of trading the Seahawks moved up in the sixth round from 33rd (217 overall) to the 24th position (208th overall) by shipping their original seventh-round pick to the Chicago Bears. With the 33rd pick in the draf the Hawks selected offensive tackle Stone Forsythe, from Florida.
BIG MAN
The 6’8 307 Forsythe is a big man who started at left tackle the last two years for the Gators. An excellent pass blocker with some questions around his ability to get down low and run block.
WHAT THE SCOUTS ARE SAYING ABOUT STONE FORSYTHE
With their third and final pick of the draft, the Seahawks finally address their biggest need. Forsythe excels as a pass protector, but he’ll need to become a more consistent run blocker in order to gain the trust of his coaches as a starter. – Mark Dulgerian
Forsythe was one of the best pass-protecting tackles in the SEC, allowing only two sacks and eight hurries in 513 pass-blocking snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.
WHAT THE SEAHAWKS ARE SAYING ABOUT STONE FORSYTHE
Pete Carroll
“That means he has front side blocks where he must reach flashy athletes and he also must cut off big defensive tackles when the ball’s going away.
He’s shown the ability to do that, so we’re not worried about his foot quickness in that regard. We got to get him to play good and low, and that’s always the question with guys. He’s 6’8”. Guys are going to try to get up underneath him.
But he has seen that against the best. We got to watch him against the best that the SEC had to offer in the last couple of years, and we felt good about the potential for him to be a really good player for a long period of time, so we’re excited about that. “
John Schneider:
“Yeah, Hutch went down to work him out. Steve Hutchinson and Alonzo Highsmith were at the workout and Hutch spent a ton of time with him. He’s not a real outspoken individual, he’s just a real quiet, like, confident, calm guy. He doesn’t come off like a, you know; he’s kind of professional. He just kind of shows up every day, he’s there, trying to get better.”
Carroll:
Coaches count on him, great rapport.
Schneider:
” So, it’s cool to have Hutch spend as much time with him as he did. And, obviously, Aaron Hineline and those guys really had him nailed as a person. He’s not going to be cruising around with his shirt rolled up and stuff like that, I guess. “
WHAT STONE FORSYTHE SAID ABOUT THE SEAHAWKS
(On what this moment means for him…)
“It’s hard to describe in words. All that hard work is finally paying off. It’s just an honor to hear your name called even though it’s later in the day. I’m still so happy and so grateful for the opportunity to get out there and play. (On if he talked with Seattle during the pre-draft process and if Seattle said where they would play him…)
I had about two or three Zoom calls with some of the coaches and a scout. They told me I’d get out there and kind of play both [sides] and compete for a job and see if I can find my spot on the field. (On where he spent the most time on the offensive line over the past two years…) The last few years, I would say I’ve spent more time on the left. I’ve always kind of worked on the right side too, but I played more left this past season”
