Quick impressions from Saturday Husky football scrimmage

OFFENSIVE SHOWING

Incumbent starter Dylan Morris has been playing like a returning starter the first six practices with Saturday being no exception. Morris has shown command and grasp of the offense. On Saturday Morris threw a pair of short touchdowns to junior tight end Delvin Culp. Morris showed his poise in the pocket on 3rd and long when he sidestepped oncoming pass rushers and kept the offense on the field with a 15-yard reception to Cade Otto.

Heir apparent to the throne and early enrollee Sam Huard kept the heat on Morris by throwing two touchdown passes to sophomore tight end Quentin Moore. Yes, that’s four touchdowns to the tight end unit. The wide receivers unit led by Terrell Bynum, Jalen McMillan, and Sawyer Racanelli did not show up and shout out on  Saturday but they did show they can be as good as the Huskies have had in the last several years.

STABLE OF BACKS

The Huskies’ philosophy in the upcoming season will be to rotate the running backs and keep riding the hot hand. On Saturday  Cameron Davis, Kamari Pleasant, Richard Newton all took turns carrying the rock. One name to remember is freshman 6-0, 210 redshirt freshman  Jay’Veon Sunday. Yes, he is destined to play on Sunday. Could not resist the pun. On a serious note,  the kid can play. On Saturday he showed his toughness when he punched the ball in from the one-yard line on  4th and 1. Senior Kamari Pleasant scored a touchdown from six yards to remind coaches of his consistency inside the red zone.
