Sunday’s game between the Seahawks and 49ers will be decided by which coaching staff does the best job of getting their nonstarters ready to play. Both teams will be missing marquee players for the contest and will be relying on players who are unaccustomed to starting on a regular basis.
SEAHAWKS DECIMATED BACKFIELD
According to head coach Pete Carroll rookie, DeeJay Dallas was given all of the reps early on during the week and was shut down the last few days of practice to conserve him for the game. Chris Carson ( foot), Travis Homer ( knee ), and Carlos Hyde ( hamstring ) did not practice all week.
Carson will be a game-time decision with Homer and Dallas likely to play on Sunday. Hyde was listed as doubtful on Friday’s injury report and would be a major surprise if he plays.
DEFENSIVE BACK FIELD
The defensive backfield will undergo some shuffling Sunday with the news that Shaquill Griffin will miss the game due to a hamstring injury. The injury report lists hamstring and concussion as the ailments for keeping Griffin from participating in Sunday’s game. When asked Carroll clarified that it was the hamstring that kept him out for this week. Strong Safety Jamal Adams suffered a setback this week when he came down with an illness on top of his ongoing groin issue. As a result, Adams did not practice this week and is listed as questionable. While holding out hope Carroll was not overly optimistic that Adams would play without practicing.
The good news for the Seahawks is that Safety Ryan Neal ( hamstring ) is available to play. Safety Ugo Amadi ( hamstring) will be a game-time decision.
GETTING THE MOST OF BACK UP PLAYERS
Offensive guard Mike Lupati ( back) and DE Benson Mayoma ( ankle ) round out the Seahawks injury report. Mayoma is listed as questionable and could see some game minutes while Lupati ( questionable ) most likely won’t see the field. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel ( hamstring) and running back Jeffrey Wilson ( ankle ) are listed as out for Sunday’s game.
The Seahawks and 49ers rank one and two when it comes to most injured players this season. Despite the injuries both teams have been able to have back up players produce when called on
