Husky head coach Chris Petersen’s preseason press conference with the media was well, your typical preseason press conference. Plenty of optimism abound, some reflective comments about the previous season and some but not a lot of insight about the coming year. Why bother you ask? If you listen close enough you can usually pick up a quote or two worth repeating and contemplating.
The Huskies went 10-4 last year, where Pac-12 Champions and ended the year with a disappointing 28 to 23 Rose Bowl loss to Big 12 Champions Ohio State. In addition to the Rose Bowl loss, the Huskies saw the departure of career leaders quarterback Jake Bwoning and running back Myles Gaskin. The Huskies had the no.1 ranked defense in the Pac-12 and like the offense had some significant departures. Gone are All- American linebacker Ben Burr-Kirvin, Defensive backs Tylor Rapp, Jojo Mcintosh and Byron Murphy who are now slated to earn an NFL paycheck this fall. The Husky defense has just two returning starters while the offense has seven.
The Huskies first official practice will be friday, August 2nd and will practice every day in August except for August 22nd.
