Seahawks trade for Colts All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson

The Seattle Seahawks pulled off a blockbuster trade, acquiring eight-time and six-time All-Pro left guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts. The 30-year-old Nelson is considered one of the best players at his position and has not allowed a sack in 2026. To acquire Nelson, the Seahawks sent a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick.

AN OPPORTUNITY THE SEAHAWKS COULD NOT PASS UP

Acquiring Nelson makes sense for the Seahawks. Nelson is at the peak of his game; the Indianapolis Colts are in full fire sale mode. The No. 6 overall pick in the 2018 draft stepped into the NFL  running and has not stopped since. Nelson is in the final year of his contract and will be a free agent at season’s end. That point should be moot.

If  Seahawks General Manager John Schneider believed there was no chance of re-signing  Nelson, he would not  have pulled the trigger on the blockbuster deal. The Seahawks waived right guard Christian Haynes to make room on the 53-man roster for Haynes.

WHERE WILL HE PLAY?

With Nelson being an All-Pro at left guard, the Seahawks will likely insert him there and move current starting tackle Gray Zabel. Zabel and the rest of the Seahawks offensive line have struggled this season. In the win over the Chiefs,

the Offensive line was able to get through the game without surrendering a sack. In the previous two games, Sam Darnold was sacked five times in each game. The offensive line has also struggled in the run game.In the win over the Chiefs, the Seahawks offense rushed for 153 yards and converted 11 of 16 third-down attempts.

ATHONY BRADFORD IMPACT

Sunday night’s game with the Chiefs saw the return of right guard Anthony Bradford, who had missed four games due to a hip/leg injury.  While Bradford made it through the game, left tackle Charles Cross was not so lucky. Cross suffered an ankle injury late in the game and  was replaced by Josh Jones who played the last 13 offensive snaps. Head coach Mike Macdonald was asked about Cross injury and only confirmed it was an ankle injury.

“ Charles Cross has an ankle injury and we will  see how long it’s going to be ,” said Macdonald. As for wether Cross will play  in the Seahawks  upcoming Monday night game with the Chicago Macdonald was just as coy. We’re not really proceeding with anything right now.  Today is  Monday, he’s got an ankle and we’re going to take it from there.”
