Leonard Williams and Ty Okada cleared for Sundays game with Niners

The Seattle Seahawks defense received a double dose of good news  after Friday’s practice. Head coach Mike  Coach Macdonald  announced that Leonard Williams has been cleared to play in Sunday’s game with the   Niners. The three-time Pro Bowler and team sack leader suffered an ankle injury in the fourth quarter during the Seahawks’ 30-23 win over the Chargers. Williams practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday, sat out Thursday’s practice, and was a full participant during Friday’s practice

“Leonard (Williams) is going to play.” I don’t want to take anything away from Leo, ‘ said Macdonald. We had a good feel throughout the week. We wanted to do right by him and make sure he was good to go.”

The return of  Williams to the starting line-up  will be a big boost to a defense that will have it’s hands full against a potent Niners offense.

OKADA RETURNS

The other good news the Seahawks defense received was that  safety Ty Okada would make his  first appearance of 2026. “Ty’s going to play, he’s ready to go. He’s done a great job doing the things that Ty does. Making plays in the back end. Getting us lined up.

Getting us in and out of plays. He’s done a great job. He’s not rusty at all on the mental side and he’s moving around great. Looking forward to seeing him play,’ said Macdonald. Okada started 11 of 17 regular-season games and all three postseason games last  year. Okada had a career year during the Seahawks Super Bowl run, setting career highs in tackles (64), sacks (1.5), interceptions (1), and six passes defended.

A hamstring injury kept Okada out of the first four games of the 2026 season. The team kept Okada on the active list and listed him as inactive for each of those four games rather than placing him on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Rodney Thomas II took over for Okada a the practice squad. He started against the first two games of the season and filled in admirably. On September 23rd, the Seahawks signed  Thomas to the active roster, and he continued his stellar play in the loss to the Commanders and the win over the Chargers

“Rodney’s (Thomas) done a tremendous job filling in for Ty,’ said Macdonald after Friday’s practice when he announced Okada would play on Sunday.  When asked about using both safeties, Macdonald was evasive. “ We could “, said Macdonald.

Thomas has recorded nine solo tackles and two pass defenses this season.

The Seahawks will need a group effort to contain a balanced Niners offense ranked 7th overall and averaging 389 yards per game.  Quarterback Brock Purdy has completed 79 of 113 pass attempts for 1,007 yards, 11 touchdowns, and just one interception.   Christian McCaffrey is Purdy’s leading target with 50 receptions for 218 yards and four touchdowns.
