Jadarian Price to miss Chargers game after re-aggravated shoulder injury

Rookie running back Jadarian Price has been ruled out for the Seahawks game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The news was a blow to the rookie and a running game that needs a reboot. Price aggravated a shoulder injury during Wednesday practice, according to head coach Mike Macdonald.

“He re-aggravated his chest in practice on Wednesday,” said Macdonald. When asked if it was a long-term injury, Macdonald was not committed: “Don’t know yet.”

Price had a promising start to the season with back-to-back 52-yard games to open the season.   Against the Commanders, Price had five carries, which is half of what he had in each of the first two games. In his last games, Price had two fumbles, which contributed to him receiving just five carries in the Commanders game.    During his Monday press conference, Macdonald expressed confidence that Price can overcome the fumbles.

With JD (Jadarian Price), he understands what’s going on; he needs to take care of the ball. There are some things fundamentally where we can focus on, and we’re going to continue to give him the ball; we trust him. We know that he’s going to work hard to do his part as well,’ said Macdonald.

Those fundamental adjustments will now have to wait until Price is healthy to return to practice. Price’s absence will create opportunities for the running backs.

“I’m excited to see these guys play. It’s unfortunate with JD (Jadarian Price). Hopefully this allows him to get healthy,’ said Macdonald. ”We’ve got guys ready to go behind him who are preparing their tails off and are good players. I feel like we have a good plan, and we’ll go play a game.”

Price leads the team in rushing with 28 carries for  119 yards. Right behind him is Emanuel Wilson with 32 carries for 109 yards. The Seahawks offense is ranked 18th in the league, averaging 101 yards per game. Against the Commanders, the Seahawks rushed for 44 yards.

REINFORCEMENTS ON THE WAY

Reinforcements are seemingly on the way. The  Seahawks opened the 21-day practice window for Zach Charbonnet, who started the season on the Physically Unable to  Perform list due to a torn ACL injury he suffered in the second quarter of the Seahawks   41-6 NFC Divisional Round win over the San Francisco on Jan 17th.

“ He looks fantastic. It’s remarkable what he’s been able to do. Think about the journey that entails the daily process. We’ve spoken on what we feel about Zach (Charbonnet) and what type of person he is,’ said Macdonald. “  For how he’s taken on this rehab and gotten himself in the shape that he’s in and the strength that he has is remarkable. Our hats off to him. We respect the hell out of him. We want to do right by the process. That’s what our focus is on.”

DEFENSIVE ALSO GETTING REINFORCEMENTS

Safety Julian  Love returned to practice this week and told reporters he will play in Sunday’s game with the Chargers. Love missed the Commanders game with a calf injury. “Just my calf went on me a little bit. Yeah, I really wasn’t doing anything too crazy. It happened Thursday, and with the flight and quick turnaround, just things weren’t able to progress quickly enough to get out there,’ said Love during his Wednesday press conference with the media.

Another defensive reinforcement on the mend is safety Ty Okada, who practiced for the first time this season after injuring his hamstring before the season began. Okada is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game.  He is unlikely to play, but his return to practice is a good sign for the Seahawks secondary, which saw the return of healthy Nick Emamwori. Emamwori missed the season opener against the Patriots, saw limited snaps in the  Cardinals game, and started his first game against the Commanders last week.
