Sam Darnold in, Julian Love out as   Seahawks set to face Commanders.

The Seahawks injury carousel took a spin Friday afternoon when quarterback Sam Darnold was taken off the injury list and replaced by safety Julian Love. In some sense, it was a swap of the team’s defensive quarterback for its offensive back.  Darnold injured his glute muscle in the season opener.

Love’s  injury was somewhat of a surprise  after he started and finished the Seahawks’ first two games. ” His calf tightened up yesterday, and now he’s out, said head coach Mike Macdonald. “

I don’t know how long it’s going to be, Macdonald said. Love will join safety Ty Okada, who has missed the last two games due to a hamstring issue.

As for Darnold, Macdonald was ecstatic about the return of his starting quarterback.

“ Sam’s going to play. He’s ready to go; he’s done a great job.”

ROSTER MOVES

After signing safety Rodney Thomas to the 53-man roster on Wednesday, the Seahawks solidified their safety depth for Sunday’s game by elevating Maxen Hook from the practice squad. Thomas started alongside Love in the Seahawks’ win over the Cardinals. The question now is who will replace  Love?  Rookie AJ Finley will get some playing time according to Macdonald.

“It’s one of those (situations) where you’re bummed about Julian (Love). He’s had such a great start to the season. He’s such a great player. When AJ (Finley) got the pick in training camp, I’m just thinking about the journey he’s been on over the last year and the way he’s gotten his body back and his movement, and he had a great practice today. He’s on it now. He’s as sharp as a whip, and he’s a great communicator, ball skills, all those things. I’m excited for him to have the opportunity.”

While it sounds like  Finley will get the start, nothing is certain until kickoff Sunday afternoon.

Nick Emmanwori is another potential starter.  Emmanwori made his season debut in the Cardinals game, playing nine defensive reps.  Another returning starter on the offense is Jadarian Price, who was limited to 24 offensive snaps due to a shoulder injury.  The rookie had a full week of practice, and according to Macdonald, he is ready for Sunday.  “He’s taking a ton of reps. Excited to see him go play; he’s ready to go,’ said Macdonald.
