Seahawks Athony Bradford ruled out for Cardinals game

Starting right guard Anthony Bradford has officially been ruled out for the Seahawks game against the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon in Glendale, Arizona.  Bradford was listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report after missing Friday’s practice and participating in limited ways in the previous two practice sessions due to knee and hip injuries.

Quarterback Sam Darnold and safety  Ty  Okada have also been ruled out for the Cardinals game.  Safety Nick Emmanwori is listed as questionable with ankle and hip injuries. Emmanwori saw limited practice in the team’s three practices, and it is highly unlikely that he will play. He has not practiced a full week since he had offseason surgery.

OPPORTUNITY FOR  CHRISTIAN HAYES

During Friday’s media briefing, head coach Mike Macdonald said Christian Haynes would start if Bradford is unable to play. With the news being official,  Haynes will get his first start as a Seahawk. Bradford was drafted in the third round of the 2024 draft and played in 16 regular-season games his rookie year. Last year, Haynes saw action in eight games, including the Super Bowl.

The Seahawks returned all five offensive line starters: guard Grey Zabel, tackles Charles Cross and Abe Lucas,  Center  Jalen Sundell, and  Bradford, which will help  Haynes as he steps in for Bradford. Also stepping in to start for an injured starter will be Drew Lock. Sam Darnold is ruled out of Sunday’s game with a glute injury.

“ The biggest thing for us, like I said last week, going into that game is taking care of the football. That’s the one thing that’s at a premium in this position, no matter what team you’re on, but especially this one,” said Lock. “ Get the ball in our playmakers’ hands, let our defense go be our defense, take care of the football, win the turnover differential. See where the scoreboard is at the end of it, and hopefully, we come out with a win. I would say if there’s one thing I’m saying to myself, it’s take care of the football and get it into these guys’ hands.”

SEAHAWKS DEFENSE WILL NEED TO MAKE CARDINALS ONE-DIMENSIONAL

The Cardinals are coming off an impressive 26-14 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. In the win, the Chargers racked up 393 offensive yards, with 277 coming through the air. Quarterback Jacoby Brisset completed 27 of 37 pass attempts for 277 yards and one touchdown.  The Seahawks defense will look to stop the Cardinals’ run game, which had 116 yards against the Chargers, and make Brisset face third-and-long situations.

“ It’s going to be very important to get pressure on him. Any quarterback, you get pressure on them, and they start to fold a little bit. Hitting him often, hitting him early is going to be key to this game.’ Said  Leonard Williams. “ Making sure we’re affecting him as early as possible, getting quick wins and making him uncomfortable as possible.”

OFFENSE WILL NEED TO ESTABLISH A GROUND GAME

While the defense is making Brisset uncomfortable, the offense will need to find a rhythm. The Seahawks will need to establish a run game that will set up the pass through play action. Against the   Patriots, the Seahawks rushed for 97 yards.  Jadarian Price had 52 of the 97 yards on 10 carries.   The rookie is looking to maximize his opportunities on Sunday. Macdonald has seen a yeoman manner in the way Price has attacked the week leading up to the Cardinals games.

“He’s the same guy. It’s a very process-oriented with him. Thomas Hammock has done a tremendous job coaching him up and the rest of his room, but it’s seamless. It’s the same thing. There are going to be plays as a first-year player where we want to improve on, just like everyone on the roster, but it’s how you attack it, move on and grow,’ said Macdonald. “The business we are in as a football team is that we need to keep growing, and we need to keep stacking. Jadarian (Price) is a great example of that: just one play at a time, one game at a time, and keep attacking it, and the rest of the team needs to follow suit.”
