The Sixth day of the Seattle Seahawks training camp was intense, physical, and competitive. It was a hot day, which happened to be the second consecutive day in which the players had the pads on. Given all those factors, it is no wonder that several skirmishes broke out.
COMPETITIVE NATURE
Two of the three skirmishes involved multiple players. All three skirmishes broke out during the team drills. The Seahawks have some of the league’s biggest playmakers. That was evident in the team bringing a second Lombardi Trophy to the City of Seattle. Add head coach Mike Macdonald’s about running it forward. You have veterans and rookies vested in the run-it-back process. The result is constant competition.
“That’s normal. Just guys trying to get better. It isn’t anything personal, “said Byron Murphy during his post-practice presser. “Justguys competing. It gets intense out there, but it doesn’t mean anything to us. We are all brothers at the end of the day.””Urphy is one of the young, bright players who is looking to become a dominant player in the league.
“My first goal is to win football games again. This year, All-Pro, Pro Bowl. I’m making for things like that—double-digit sacks. ‘ I’m mending myself to a higher standard this year,’ said Murphy.
OFFENSE CONTINUES TO SHINE
Quarterback Sam Darnold has picked up where he left off during the team’s Super Bowl run. His passes have been surgical, his demeanor calming, and he has led by example. Rookie Jadarian Price had another stellar performance on Friday. Price showed his speed and cutting ability on Thursday, the first day the team put on the pads.
Once the pads come on, it allows the offensive linemen to get their blocks and the double teams to happen. That makes my job easier. It makes the hole open up a bit more, and it makes my runs a bit more decisive, said Price. George Holani had several runs in Friday’s practice.
DEFENSE PUSHED BACK
On the defensive side of the ball, Leonard Williams was unrelenting and unstoppable. Williams stuffed several runs adn impressed Price with his relentless pursuit.
“The” fly around on every down. You’re yards down the field, and you have defensive linemen like Leonard Williams chasing you down, so that goes to show the way guys practice is the reason they were so successful last year. The fact that they could still do it this year makes me a better player, along with the whole team, “said Price.
Rookie Bud Clark was another standout on the defense. Clark has been playing multiple positions, including coverage safety and box safety.
INJURY UPATE
Ernest Jones did not participate in the 11-11 teams drills and has been limited after sustaining a knock in Tuesday’s practice. Nick Emmanwori exchanged his ski boot, which he wore on Thursday, for Friday’s ankle boot. DT Brandon Pili did not practice
