The question many Seattleites asked but was never given an answer to has now been revealed.
USMNT and Sounders FC player Cristian Roldan suffered a muscle strain on the last kick of the team’s Seattle practice. “ It was one of the last shots of the day, and I felt a tight a grab and just wanted to play it a little bit more cautiously, “ said Roldan during his Zoom call with the Seattle media.
“ I don’t need it to make it bigger than it is. And so, that’s kind of what the injury is. It’s day to day, and hopefully I get myself a chance to play in the Turkey game because it’s a big opportunity, to get some meaningful minutes.”
Roldan did indicate that he will be back practicing with the team on Wednesday.
” I’ll be on the field tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes.”
The USMNT has clinched a spot in the FIFA 2026 knockout stage after winning the first two games and topping Group D. One thing this World Cup has shown is that the game is a separate challenge, physically, mentally, and technically. With several starters holding yellow cards, head coach Mauricio Pochettino is expected to shuffle his lineup for Thursday’s match with Turkiye. Whether that shuffle will see Roldan in the line-up remains to be seen.
With so many players competing in some of the world’s biggest domestic leagues, there is no easy game. Another key component in this World Cup and any tournament is momentum. The USMNT will be looking to keep the momentum from the two wins into the third game.
“We talked about increasing the mentality, increasing the intensity. This is a game that if we want to maintain World Cup ambitions, if we want to make it far in the tournament, then you have to take care of, “ added Roldan .”This is the standard that we set at this point based on how we’re playing. Hopefully, we get a good result against a a tough side. And, we want to make sure that the memories that we’re creating in this 3rd game only further the idea of belief that we can win this World Cup.”
LAST GROUP STAGE GAME
One game the USMNT players and coaches will be paying attention to on Wednesday is the Group B match between Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Qatar. The USMNT will play the winner of that match in the Round of 32 on July 1st in San Francisco. If the game ends in a draw, things get complicated, and the USMNT could face Senegal.
