Seattle Storm’s Preseason Breakdown: Stats and Highlights

Flau’jea Johnson scored a game-high 20 points, and her backcourt mate Zia Cooke chipped in 19 points to lead the Seattle Storm to a 91-81 preseason win over the Portland Fire. The contest was the first home game for the Storm. The Storm finished the preseason with a 1-1 record and will now focus its attention on next Friday’s season opener at Climate Pledge with the Golden State Valkyries.

STORY OF THE GAME: The Storm jumped out to a 27-19 lead after going 13-for-18 from the free throw line in the first quarter. A well-fought second quarter was powered by second-chance points, with Seattle notching 12 points off six offensive rebounds. The Storm came out of halftime strong, using an 11-2 run in the third quarter to enter the final frame with a seven-point lead. In the final quarter, Seattle shot 40% from beyond the arc, and 19 of the team’s 24 fourth-quarter points came from reserves. 

KEY STATS OF THE GAME 

  • Seattle shot 42 free throws, the most by the Storm in a preseason game. They made 32, shooting 76.2%. 
  • The Storm grabbed 43 rebounds, including 17 offensive boards which accounted for 28 second chance points. 
  • 49 of Seattle’s 91 points were notched by reserves, with the Storm playing every active player on the roster. 

STORM HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Flau’jae Johnson led the Storm with 20 points on 43% shooting from beyond the arc. She led the team with eight free throw attempts and totaled three rebounds and one steal. 
  • Zia Cooke finished with 19 points on 44.4% three-point shooting and 5-for-7 shooting from the charity stripe. 
  • Dominique Malonga notched a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds. 
  • Lexie Brown tallied six points, six rebounds and tied for a game-high three steals. 

FIRE HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Luisa Geiselsoder led Portland with 15 points. Sarah Ashlee Barker added 14.  

UP NEXT: The Storm make its 2026 regular season debut on Friday, May 8 as they host the Golden State Valkyries. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on ION.
