The Seahawks make Jaxson Smith – Njigba the highest-paid receiver in NFL history

  Seahawks general manager John Schneider checked off one of his biggest offseason to-do boxes on Monday morning. Multiple reports confirmed that the Seahawks and Jaxson Smith- Njigba were finalizing a four-year, $168.6 million contract extension. The deal comes just three days after the team picked up the fifth-year option on the former Buckeye’s rookie contract.  The deal folds into the  5th  option, meaning he will make an average salary of $32.5 million and is signed through 2031. 6-year deal 192

COSISTENT PRODUCTION

Smith-Njiba earned his payday after consistently rising up the team and the league’s chart of best receiver with his production. After being picked in the first round and  23 overall in the 2023 draft, Njigba had a quiet rookie year.  He started in three games, participated in all 17 games, and finished the season with 63 receptions, 638 yards, and four touchdowns. He became the first rookie since 1960 to haul in two game-winning touchdowns.

BREAKOUT SOPHOMORE YEAR

A breakout sophomore year left people outside the Seahawks organization wondering what the ceiling was for Smith-Njigba. In 2024, Smith-Njigba started 16 of 17 games, caught 100 passes for 1,1380  and six touchdowns. The numbers led all the Seahawks receivers, including  DK Metcalf’s production, and earned him a  Pro Bowl selection.  During the 2024 season, Metcalf was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers and  provided  Smith- Njigba the space he needed to become the best   receiver in the NFL


ELITE SEASON

In 2025, Smith-Njigba became the team’s main receiver, and his production skyrocketed.  He started all 17 regular-season games, had 119 receptions, and led the NFL in receiving yards with 1,793 yards and 10 touchdowns. The numbers earned Smith-Njiba a second consecutive Pro Bowl selection, the AP Offensive Player of the Year, and first-team AP All-Pro.  Smith-Njigba started all of the Seahawks’ three playoff games, including the Super Bowl, and finished with 17 postseason receptions, 199 yards, and  two touchdowns.
