The countdown to Super Bowl LX has officially begun with the Seattle Seahawks scoring their first touchdown of the week. The Seahawks landed at San Jose Mineta International Airport at 2:25 p.m. The New England Patriots landed at the same airport roughly two hours earlier, at 1:51 pm. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and his counterpart, Mike Macdonald, will be looking to use every time management skill they have to minimize players’ distractions as they prepare for the big game.
UNDERSTANDING USE OF TIME
Both coaches have used a season-long game plan that has clearly worked. Their messaging and ability to communicate has brough them to the big game. What matters now is how to navigate the remaining time before the game. For Macdonald and his staff the messaging from the beginning of the offseason has always been about intention.
“I just think early on, that’s how we decided we wanted to operate, and to me, if you want to get anything done, you’ve got to know where you’re going. You can’t just walk out there and just throw the football out there and say let’s go practice.,’ said Macdonald.” What is our intention today? It’s keep it simple, let’s do it together. We hit a lot of marks throughout this whole process. I’m not going to lie, we didn’t hit it as consistently as I wanted or as you would hope we would probably until this offseason. I just felt like the guys were locked in every day, and it was awesome.”
A TALL TASK
Staying locked in is something the Seahawks players adopted early in Macdonald’s building process . “ I think to me we just take it one day at a time, but we are also consistent in the way we stay with the same process. No matter what game or situation it is,” said Byron Murphy. “ We just prepare the same way every day, and we don’t change.”
BUSY WEEK BEGINS
The players and coaches will use part of Sunday to unpack and begin preparations on Monday during the day, and on Monday night, take part in the Annual Super Bowl media nights. Players will field questions from anyone who has been credentialed for the event. The opening media night has been a bit of a spectacle. Journalists, influencers, and bloggers will be on hand to ask the players questions. Some have been football-related, while others have, let’s say, been off-center.
