Kraken latest injury news update has team in a promising position

The Kraken are on the verge of nearly a clean bill of health, which only helps their quest for the second postseason berth in team history.

Times are good in Seattle, with the Kraken going 9-1-2 in their past 12 games and sitting in third place in the Pacific Division. This positivity extends to their injury situation, with Jordan Eberle only missing two games and Jaden Schwartz back after missing six weeks of actions with a lower-body issue.

Schwatz has been with the Kraken since day one and is almost underrated for what he brings to the team, so head coach Lane Lambert is certainly grateful to have him back in the lineup. Speaking to the media about him on Tuesday, Lambert said:

“Well you can argue he was probably our best and most consistent forward before he got hurt, leading our team in points when he went down. But he brings an element of all facets to the team including leadership, leadership by example, plays in any special team we want him to play on, net front presence. We missed him and we’re happy to have him back.”

Matt Murray – lower body

The Kraken’s goaltending position has been excellent so far this season, with them ranking fourth in the NHL with a team .911 save percentage and ninth with a 2.82 Goals Against Average (GAA). This has been extremely important, with the struggles to score goals on a consistent basis at the other end of the ice.

The main reason for this tremendous productivity has been a rejuvenated Philip Grubauer backing up Joey Daccord and seeing more action as the season has progressed. However, the Kraken will soon be able to add Matt Murray into the mix and further strengthen the last line of defense.

Murray had a .922 save percentage and 2.21 GAA in five appearances before suffering a lower body injury on Nov. 15 and subsequently being placed on injured reserve. At the time he was expected to be out for around six weeks which has since been and gone, but the latest projections have him ready to return this weekend.

Brandon Montour – hand

Brandon Montour has been out since suffering a hand injury on Dec. 16, which resulted in him being placed on injured reserve on Dec. 22. He was projected to be sidelined for at least four weeks after undergoing hand surgery.

Montour has now returned to practice and skated with the team on Tuesday, putting him on track to return some time next week. The blue-liner was an important part of the Florida Panthers team which won the Stanley Cup in 2023-24, and his veteran experience will prove invaluable as the Kraken pursue a playoff berth in the coming months.

Other Kraken injury updates

There is understandably no change with Max McCormick, who is out for the entire 2025-26 campaign after undergoing hip surgery. As long as everything continues to go to plan, he should be ready to play again at the beginning of next season.

Finally and not injury-related, Chandler Stephenson was placed on the non-roster list on Jan. 10 for personal reasons. However, the Kraken confirmed on Tuesday that he has now been activated and will likely play on Wednesday evening versus the New Jersey Devils, resulting in Oscar Fisker Molgaard being reassigned in a corresponding roster move.
