The Seahawks’ offensive line received some good news with the team making the announcement that center Jalen Sundel and tight end Eric Saubert have been designated to return to practice. Sundell injured his knee in the Arizona game, never returned, and was placed on injured reserve on November 15th and is now eligible to return to practice after missing the last four games. Saubert was placed on IR on November 1st and has missed the last six games. According to head coach Mike Macdonald, both players will feature in Sunday’s game with the Colts.
” We hope they’ll be available. Same thing, each of these guys is coming off an extended break, so we have a plan for each guy. We’ll see how it pans out throughout the week, but we’re optimistic for this weekend and see how today goes, “said Macdonald during his weekly press conference and just before teh teams afternoon practice session. ” Then we’ll kind of accelerate throughout the rest of the week and into next week.”
WILL SANDELL RETURN AS A STARTER OR BACKUP?
The one question Macdonald did not know the answer to was whether Sandell would return as a starter or a backup. Olu Olumati started the last four games at center in place of Sundell, and by all accounts has done an admirable job.
“Yeah, we’ve got to see how well practice goes, but we’ll just make sure he’s fully healthy before we make a declaration,’ said Macdonald. The path to playing time is much easier for Saubert, who could step in and replace rookie Elija Arroyo, who injured his knee during the second quarter of the Falcons game. Arroyo was the target of a Sam Darnold pass that ended up being an interception.
The Seahawks are 3-1 with Oluwatimi as the starter and are on a three-game win streak. Macdonald and Offensive Coordinator Klint Kubiak have had glowing reviews regarding Oluwatimi’s play. The outside noise regarding the Seahawks’ offensive line play is around Anthony Bradford. Depending on which publication you follow, Bradford is the issue to the Seahawks’ run game, which is ranked 18th in the league. The Seahawks’ pass game is ranked 9th, which is the overall ranking for the Seahawks as a whole.
When asked about Bradford’s performance in the Seahawks’ 37-9 win over the Falcons, Macdonald pointed out that Bradford was the highest graded offensive lineman in the win.
“AB (Anthony Bradford) graded out as our highest offensive lineman yesterday. He’s playing hard, he’s got a great punch. I think his overall confidence is probably at a high in his career at this point. He’s practicing well, he practices hard, he’s doing all the steps that it takes to end up putting good football on the field. I know there’s some plays that are minuses or aren’t up to par, but there’s a lot of great plays as well. I thought he had a good game yesterday.”
