The wait is over in the Emerald City. FIFA announced the 2026 World Cup Groups and match schedule in Washington, DC last weekend. The 2026 Tournament will be hosted by three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The matches will be spread across 16 cities and will total 104. This year’s tournament will feature a record 48 teams. Presidents from all three host countries attended the star-studded draw: U.S. President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Mexican President Claudia Shienbau.
EMERALD CITY TO HOST SIX GAMES
Seattle will host four Group Stage matches as well as the knock-out stage matches. The two knockout state games will be a round of 32 and a round of 16. Seattle’s first Group stage on Monday, July 15th, will feature Egypt and Belgium. The Egyptians are led by Mohamod Sala, one of the game’s most dynamic and exciting players. Their first World Cup was in 1934 in Italy, and they have never advanced past the Group Stage. The Belgium Red Devils are ranked 8th in the World, and their first World Cup appearance was in 1930. The Red Devils best finish was third in the Russian World Cup in 2018
HOME GAME FOR THE START AND STRIPES MATCH 32 JUNE 19th
Four days later, Seattle Stadium, by FIFA rules, all stadiums cannot have sponsor names, so Lumen Field will be Seattle Stadium for the World Cup Tournament and will host the United States Men’s team as it takes on Australia. There is a strong possibility Seattle Sounders midfielder Cristian Roldan will be on the roster. Roldan has started several games for USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s side during the FIFA November window. Roldan was part of the USMNT World Cup Squad at the 2020 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Stars and Stripes defeated Tony Popovics’ side 2-1 in an October Friendly. Australia is ranked 26th and is participating in its 6th World Cup.
QATAR WILL WAIT FOR PLAYOFF WINNER MATCH 52 JUNE 24th
Seattle’s third match will feature QATAR playing the UEFA playoff winner between Italy/Northern Ireland, Wales, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Qatar hosted the 2022 World Cup Tournament and never made it past the Group Stage. This will be the Maroons’ second World Cup tournament.
RETURN OF EGYPTIAN MATCH 63 JUNE 26th
The Emerald Cities’ last Group Stage match will see the return of the Egyptians, who will face 20th-ranked Iran, who will be making their 7th World Cup appearance. Team Melli has yet to advance past the group stage but has qualified for four consecutive World Cup Tournaments.
KNOCK OUT MATCHES, ROUND OF 32, July 1st
Seattle’s first of two knockout-round matches will be a Round of 32 knockout match, featuring the winner of Group G (Belgium, Iran, Egypt, or New Zealand) against a third-place finisher.

The final match at Seattle Stadium will be an electrifying affair. While the opponents are unknown, Match 94 in Seattle will be a round-of-16 clash that will see the winner advance to the elite eight.
