Huskies have their best recruiting class on Early Signing Day

The Washington Huskies finished with the 13th-best recruiting class in the country on Early Signing Day, according to 247 Sports. The Huskies had 23 players sign letters of intent to play for the University of Washington in 2026. On Wednesday, Fisch highlighted his new recruiting class and the national reach of his program.

The Huskies nab the best player in the state of Washington

DE Derek Colman-Brusa signed his letter of intent on Wednesday, deciding to play for his hometown team. Colman-Brusa was the number one recruit in all of Washington this year, and he will be a Husky. The local product played his high school ball at Kennedy Catholic High School in Burien, WA. He is expected to make an immediate impact for the Huskies. Jedd Fisch had this to say about bringing in the top recruit in the state of Washington:

“Where we had him (Derek Colman-Brusa) on our board, where we felt he could immediately impact our team the day he walks on campus in January. The idea that he is like once again, multiple years in a row have signed the number one player in the state. The quality of the human, the quality of the family, the fact that his brother is on our team as well, we believe we have two elite players, elite people”, said Fisch.

The Huskies also brought in Derek Colman-Brusa’s brother Lowen Colman-Brusa, in their previous recruiting class in 2025. Lowen Colman-Brusa is an offensive lineman, and his brother Derek is a defensive lineman. Both brothers will likely have a significant impact on the future of Husky football for years to come. Derek Colman-Brusa is the second consecutive top in-state recruit to sign with Washington, joining Zaydrius Rainey-Sale from last year’s class.

The Huskies expect OT Kodi Greene to make an instant impact

Washington also signed the best player in the state of California, OT Kodi Greene. The Huskies were able to flip Greene’s commitment from Oregon this past spring. He is the top recruit in Washington’s 2026 class so far. On Wednesday, the Huskies’ head coach talked about what he expects from Greene:

“Kodi Greene, I’m expecting to walk in here as a starter. I’m expecting him to come in here, and be very similar a player as a John Mills, walk in and be able to compete right away. Now it took John Mills an entire spring and training camp to compete, and I believe Kodi will be in that same position, but you’re talking about an elite player. There’s a lot of high school football players that play in California, and to be ranked the number one in the state, it’s impressive. There’s a lot of tackles in this country to be one of the top five tackles in the whole country is impressive. He’s got the size, he’s got the feet. He’s got the brain, he’s got the athleticism”, said Fisch.

John Mills played both LG and RT for Washington in 2025 as a true freshman. Jedd Fisch expects Kodi Greene to come in and do the same in 2026. Greene is not only the top recruit in the state of California, but also the fourth-best offensive tackle in the country. The Huskies now will have two underclassmen who can replace senior offensive linemen Geirean Hatchett and Carver Willis. Both Kodi Greene and Lowen Colman-Brusa, who redshirted as freshmen, can replace Willis and Hatchett next year.

Washington’s recruiting class spans the nation

The Huskies recruited players from 11 different states, which demonstrates their national reach. Joining the Big Ten has played a significant role in attracting players outside the West Coast to the University of Washington. Jedd Fisch talked about the national attention his program currently has:

“Yeah, you know, I haven’t been here when they weren’t in the Big Ten, so, I will say that we 11 states covered in this recruiting class. We are able to talk to players on the East Coast and explain to them, hey, there’s going to be three or four games that your parents might be able to be on the same time zone for. We’re able to talk to players in the Midwest and Mountain time zones and talk to them about, you know, the games are at all different times, at all different places. It’s not going to be always having to travel West for everything you are doing. We’re on more national broadcast than local broadcasts. We have more of an outreach to areas in the Midwest and in the East Coast. I think that when you play teams like Ohio State and Michigan, like we did this past year, people are going to know more about your program because of just the eyes that are on those programs. The fact that we went to Penn State and played in the whiteout two years ago, helped recruiting”, said Fisch.

The Huskies’ strength as a national brand helped secure the commitments from players outside the West Coast. Washington’s notoriety helped recruit players such as four-star WR Mason James to the university. The Huskies outbid the Sooners for the second-best recruit in the state of Oklahoma because Washington is more well-known. Another sign of this national footprint was seeing two four-star receivers flipped their commitments. Both Trez Davis of West Monroe, LA, and Jordan Clay from San Antonio, TX chose Washington over Tulane and Baylor this past week. Demonstrating how much the Huskies have grown as a brand in recent years since joining the Big Ten.
