Seahawks place Tory Horton on Injured Resersve.

Seahawks rookie wideout Tory Horton was placed on injured reserve Saturday afternoon. Horton had a breakout game against the Commanders, setting career records with four receptions for 48 yards and two touchdowns. The elation and promise were tempered when Mike Macdonald announced that  Horton had suffered a shin injury in the team’s Wednesday walkthrough and would not be available for the team’s next game with the  Cardinals.

“It’s a little tricky with Tory (Horton) because we were basically on a walkthrough tempo on Wednesday, but it was a lingering issue from the game, and that’s probably the best way to put it,’ said Macdonald. Horton missed last week’s game with the Rams.

The Seahawks traded for Rashid Shaheed, and he has started the last two games at wide receiver.  The former Saint has three receptions for 30 yards and three carries for 22 yards. Jamie Sherrif and Patrick O’Connell were elevated from the practice squad for Sunday’s game with the Titans.

THREE KEYS TO A  SEAHAWKS WIN

Sunday will provide a bounce-back opportunity for the Seahawks. The Titans are 1-9 overall and have the 24th-ranked defense, allowing 352 yards per game. If the Seahawks can establish a run game against the Titans, the offense should have a good day. The Titans’ run defense is allowing 134 yards per game (26th), and the pass defense is allowing 217 yards per game, which is 18th.  Running back Ken  Walker  III was listed as questionable with a glute muscle injury, but should play in the game.

“Yeah, we’re just taking care of him today. I’d say it’s precautionary, but you never know. We’ll say it’s precautionary, he should be fine, said Macdonald after Friday’s practice.

NO TURNOVERS

The Seahawks have a league-high 20 turnovers, and Sam Darnold is coming off a career-high four interceptions.  It is a given that if the Seahawks are to beat the Titans, they will need to cut down on turnovers to avoid them altogether. The return of Gray Zabel to the lineup would be a big boost to the offense. Zabel left the Rams game in the fourth quarter due to a knee injury and was replaced by Christian Haynes.

“This guy is a tough cookie. It’s awesome to have him back out there. It’s a process, he’s going to work all the way up to game time, but he’s confident, and it’s great to have him out there,” said Macdonald.  If Zabel is unable to play, Macdonald is confident Haynes can step in if needed.

“He’s practicing hard, doing some good things. He’s going to be ready to go if we need him. We’ve got several young guys that are practicing and working hard and competing for opportunities, and Christian (Haynes) is right there with those guys.”

ANOTHER DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE

In the loss to the Rams, the defense’s stellar play kept the Seahawks in the game until the very end. A similar performance is expected against a Titans offense ranked last in the league. The Titans’ offense is averaging  242 total yards. Linebacker Ernest Jones missed Friday’s practice after participating on Wednesday and Thursday and is listed as questionable for the game. Jones returned to the lineup against the Rams after sitting out the Cardinals game due to a knee injury.

“His knee, just still working from a couple weeks ago, just working through it. He hasn’t reinjured anything, he’s just working through his knee, the same knee, said Macdonald.

With Tyrice Knight ruled out of the game with a concussion, the Seahawks’ defense is thin at linebacker.
