Seahawks add to receiving corps trade for Rashid Shaheed

The Seahawks acquired wide receiver Rashid Shaheed from the New Orleans Saints.

The move demonstrates the Seahawks’ commitment to strengthening their passing game. While they have the NFL’s number one receiver in Jaxson Smith-Njigba and an emerging Tory Horton, the Seahawks wanted more from their deep threat.

Shaheed brings a deep threat option that will make it difficult for defenses to solely focus on Smith-Njigba. Smith-Njigba leads the team in receiving yards with 948 yards and four touchdowns. Last month, he was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month for October. With Cooper Kupp and Jake Bobo nursing injuries that saw the two wideouts miss the Commanders game, with the possibility of extended time on the sidelines, the move also provides insurance , depth, and competition.

Reunion and depth

To acquire Shaheed, the Seahawks send a fourth and a fifth-round pick in the 2026 draft to the Saints. After being undrafted, Shaeed signed with the Saints in 2022. In his four seasons with the Saints, Shaheed had 138 catches for 2,055 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 19 rushes for 128 yards and a touchdown. In 2024, Shaeed suffered a season-ending knee injury in week six against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Shaheed finished the season with 20 receptions, 349 yards, and three touchdowns.

In nine games with the Saints this season, Shaheed had 44 catches for 499 yards and two touchdowns. Joining the Seahawks will a reunion for Shaheed and OC Klint Kubiak who were both with the Saints in 2024. In addition to his pass-catching abilities, Shaheed is an accomplished special teams player. He earned first-team All-Pro Honors as a punt returner and Pro Bowl honors as a return specialist in 2023.
