Huskies prepare for Wisconsin, as Jedd Fisch holds a presser

After a bye week, the Huskies are preparing for another road trip, as they go to Wisconsin to face the Badgers. This will be the third time Washington has traveled to another time zone to play a game. The Huskies have already traveled to Michigan and Maryland earlier in the season. Washington will play in the Central Time Zone on Saturday for the first time this year after playing two games in the Eastern Time Zone. Here is what Jedd Fisch said at his Monday presser ahead of Saturday’s road matchup.

The Huskies enter November at 24th in the latest AP Poll

After beating 23rd-ranked Illinois in week nine, the Huskies were just outside the top 25 at 28th. Washington benefited this past week from sitting idle, while Houston and Cincinnati lost. The Huskies have been fighting to gain the voters’ respect all season, and now they have. Jedd Fisch gave his reaction to Washington’s new ranking on Monday:

“It’s good. It’s good. I think it, I think hopefully, we’ll continue to stay in that conversation. And the more you win, the better, the better situation it is. But it’s nice to be recognized for our players, for what our players have done to get to (6-2), to be in a situation where we have an opportunity now to make November, you know, each week’s going to mean something. So we’re really looking forward to that.”

Washington has a chance to continue to gain respect in the polls in November by continuing to win. The Huskies also have an outside shot at the College Football Playoff if they win out. Their only two losses this season came against No. 1-ranked Ohio State and No. 21-ranked Michigan. They also have a big clash with No. 6 Oregon at the end of the season. Before Washington can worry about Oregon, it must take care of business against Wisconsin, Purdue, and UCLA.

The Huskies prepare for a physical Wisconsin offense

Wisconsin is a physical football team that loves to run the football. The Badgers, on average, have run the ball 34 times for 110 rushing yards a game this year. When asked how this Wisconsin offense compares to years past in terms of running the ball. Fisch was complementary to the Badgers’ physicality in the running game.

“Yeah, well, good, I mean, they’re still trying to run the football. There’s no question about that. You know, they’ll run the ball on third down, they’ll run the ball on third and seven, third and eight, third and sixes. And, they’re not, they really don’t, they don’t avoid running the football. And they like to run the ball. They’re a little more spread than they’ve been in years past. They have a little bit more three receiver sets. But I still think that their core, they want to be a physical downhill running team and that’s what we have to prepare for.”

Although Wisconsin still is a ground-and-pound team, it will be without its lead running back for the rest of the season. Dilin Jones, who led the Badgers in rushing with 300 yards this season, just had a season-ending surgery. Wisconsin will rely on running backs Darrion Dupree, Gideon Ituka, and Cade Yacamelli to fill the void at tailback. The Huskies are preparing for multiple looks this week, as the Badgers deal with injuries.

Washington’s head coach provides injury updates

The Huskies are the healthiest they have been all season. They expect TE Quentin Moore to return from injury against the Badgers after missing the Illinois game with a head injury. The Huskies will wait until closer to game time on DL Isaiah Ward to see if he can play on Saturday. WR Rashid Williams suffered an injury in practice and will not play against Wisconsin. This is what Jedd Fisch said about Williams’ injury:

“Yeah, unfortunately, Rashid will not be able to play. Rashid got hurt in practice this week and will not be able to play…I think he’ll be out for at least a few weeks.”

Washington has been playing without Williams since he hurt his collarbone in week two against UC Davis. The Huskies had expected him to return this week, but will have to wait for Williams to recover from injury again. Washington is capable of playing without Williams, as WR Dezmen Roebuck and WR Raiden Vines-Bright have stepped up in place of him all season. Roebuck and Vines-Bright are second and third among the Huskies’ receivers in yards and receptions. Vines-Bright has 18 catches for 209 yards, and Roebuck has 24 catches for 394 yards this year.
