What the Seahawks Coordinators after thier press conference

Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and defensive coordinator Aden Durde spoke to the media during their weekly press conference on Thursday afternoon. Here are some quotes from their press briefings.

THE BALL IS PLAYED INTO THE PERIMETER

The greatest and latest in the NFL is getting the ball into the perimeter to offset dominant interior pass-rush and run-stuffing by elite defensive lines and edge rushers.

On the emphasis of tackling against the pass game)

“Truthfully, a lot of it’s face tackling and alley tackling. I think we’re seeing a high rate of the ball being put on the perimeter right now. And understanding like when it comes out, am I policing the grass? Are my eyes before my feet? Am I getting the correct angle? These are fundamental things that you have to constantly work on. Can I get on and off of blocks and clear the block? These are the things where you emphasize, and you keep working in practice. You say, ‘Can every individual drill finish with a tackle? Can it finish with a ball punch?’ These things they’re constantly working, getting the reps.”

(On if the ball being put on the perimeter is a league-wide trend) “I think it is going up in the league. For us, it goes on the perimeter quite a lot. In the last two games, we’ve had quite a few balls put out there, so understanding how that is, what my keys tell me and how to get out there. Because we need to bring population from the inside back out there.”

NICK EMMANWORI IS BACK AND HAD A GOOD GAME

Rookie Nick Emmanwori returned for the time this season after his game one injury

(On Nick Emmanwori’s performance on Sunday) “I thought he played well. When you’re talking about when he was in the alley and in that position, he made some plays for limited yards. I feel it was great to have him back. He had a great play when they ran a fade on him. He covered that and then he made a few tackles on the perimeter. He’s done a good job.”

(On Nick Emmanwori remaining in the meeting rooms during his time off) “When a player gets hurt, they’ve got to think to themselves, what can I do with this time? I think he’s done a great job of stepping back, seeing it from the other guy’s views, learning, way more comfortable with the guys. He made the most out of being in that situation.”

(On the rotation of Tyrice Knight and Drake Thomas) “Just utilize people. Drake’s (Thomas) doing a great job on special teams as well, so you don’t want to take him off that. Drake is playing at a level that he deserves reps on the field and he’s getting them. But also, he plays special teams and he’s one of our leaders on special teams. They share reps and work off that.”

OFFENSIVE MOMENTUM

Despite his late game interception which was a tipped ball , quarterback Sam Darnold had as stellar outing. Darnold was 28 of 34 for 341 yards and four touchdowns.

(On what’s working in the run game) “The guys have made some improvements the last couple of weeks. It’s just a group effort. It’s an area of emphasis as well as many other areas, but we’re just trying to get better in all facets, and we know there’s a whole lot of ways you can win, so we’re just trying to improve all parts of our game.”

(On the cohesion throughout the offensive line)

“They’re growing. We’ve got a young group up front that continues to grow together. The more those five can stay together and play together, the better they’ll be. The backs have done a tremendous job protecting our quarterback, as well as our offensive line, and we know every week it’s going to be a new challenge. This is an excellent challenge. It’s a really good defense; they take the ball away as good as anybody in the NFL.”

(On what Jacksonville is doing to get takeaways)

“They’re a well-coached group. They play fast, they’re disciplined, and just turn the tape on, you see one after the other. They get their eyes on the quarterback, and they’re making breaks on the ball, they’re doing a great job.”

me.”

(On why Jalen Milroe’s play was not executed well)

“We’ve been building on things since the spring, and it probably says more to the things that Sam’s (Darnold) been doing really well. But we’ll continue to develop that part of our offense and there’s plenty of reps we’ve gotten in practice that haven’t showed up yet in a game, and those are things that we’ll keep developing as the season goes.”
