Seahawks rookie safety Nick Emmawori’s injury is worse than initially thought. Head coach Mike Macdonald revealed in his Monday press conference that Emmanwori has a high ankle sprain.
“It is a high ankle for Nick (Emmanwori). Let’s call it week-to-week at this point. If we make a move, it would be in the next day or two, because we have to decide whether or not to make a move on that front, “ said Macdonald. Macdonald was then asked if the team would consider putting the promising rookie on injured reserve. “That’s under consideration. We’ll see here in the next few days, was Macdonald’s answer.
A PROMISING START CUT SHORT
Emmanwori had a promising start to the game when he tackled Niners running back Christiane McCaffrey for a two-yard loss. The injury was an absolute freak injury. While attempting to make the tackle, Emmanwori’s ankle lands on De Marcus Lawrence’s hand, which makes it difficult for the rookie safety to find solid ground on which to plant his foot.
SHUFFLING OF THE BACK LINE
The injury to Emmanwori caused a reshuffling of how the Seahawks would attack the Niners from the back end. Without the physical 6’3 220-pound box safety, the Seahawks went to a nickel package after employing an unnecessary three-safety look.
