The Seahawks returned to practice on Saturday morning with some lingering injury concerns. Head Coach Mike Macdonald revealed that linebacker Tyrice has picked up another medical issue while recovering from a knee injury.
“ He’s getting close with his knee. He also has another medical issue that we’re working through right now. We’re not going to give you all the details on it, but we’re working through it, and we expect him to be back for the (season) opener. It’s going to be a couple weeks, “ said Macdonald.
AILING LINEBACKER UNIT
Knight did not participate in the Seahawks’ preseason game with the Raiders and the practice before the game. Knight was on hand during the Seahawks’ practice but did not participate. Fellow starting linebacker Ernest Jones IV was not visible on Saturday, though he did participate in team warm-ups before Thursday’s night game with the Raiders . Jones’ father recently passed away, and he has been tending to family matters. Patrick O’Connell and Drake Thomas were the Seahawks’ starting linebackers against the Raiders.
TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITIES
O’Connell started at middle linebacker, and Thomas was on the weak side. Thomas played 55 snaps and recorded five tackles, two solo and three assisted. O’Connell played 20 snaps and recorded one tackle. D’Eryjk Jackson participated in 52 snaps and recorded five tackles, two solo and three combined. The absence of Knight will open up playing opportunities for several linebackers.
“ You know the guys. I think Patty O’s (Patrick O’Connell) had a great camp. Drake (Thomas) strung together a lot of great performances. Josh (Ross), he’s right in the mix. He will be back from his hand sooner or later. A lot of great competition there, but, you know, with T-Knight (Tyrice Knight) taking some time out here, there was a great opportunity for guys to assert themselves.”

SPIRITED PRACTICE
As for the practice itself, it was a spirited affair with the assistant coaches barking and encouraging the players to continue to improve with every snap.
“ I like hearing that, that’s pretty cool. No, our guys are awesome. What’s cool is, as a team, we know what we’re trying to achieve. As individuals, as position units, everyone’s kind of pushing their goals in their room too. All three are in the middle of trying to figure out who we’re going to be, and who’s going to play what. There’s a lot of great battles and our coaches are bringing a lot of energy every day. And there’s always something at stake, any opportunity you have to come out here and be with our guys, especially in this setting, how could you not be fired up by that?”
Continuous improvement is something Macdonald has stressed since he arrived.
Center Olu Oluwatimi participated in individual team drills but left the practice before the scrimmage portion..
“ He gave it a go today, and I think it just tightened up on him a little bit, so just as a precaution, we shut him down earlier in practice. Probably tomorrow or early in the week, hopefully,’ said Macdonald.
Corneback Shaquill Griffin returned to practice today after missing all of last week to attend to family matters.” Yeah, he snuck in an extra couple of reps. That wasn’t necessarily part of the plan, but that was great to see. He looks good out there ,” said Macdonald.
