Jordan Morris and the Seattle Sounders received the worst of news Wednesday when a second MRI revealed the teams career goal scorer had suffered a significant ACL injury. Morris suffered the injury late in the second half during the teams 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids . Morris is expected to miss six weeks .
The injury is a major physical and mental blow for Morris, who was returning to unrestricted participation after missing four games due to a hamstring issue during the Sounders’ March 11th CONCACAF Champions Cup loss to Club Azul. After the hamstring injury, the Sounders’ medical staff and Morris were diligent and patient in their plan to get Morris back on the pitch. Morris was a substitute in the last two previous games before the Colorado match. Head coach Brian Schmetzer said Morris could have started in the Colorado match, but wanted to keep the same lineup as the team was on a two-game win streak, with Danny Musoviski scoring a goal in both games.
THE DANNY SHOW
With Musoviski now recording three goals in three games, there is little doubt as to who will be the teams starting striker. In his post-game interview after the 1-1 draw with the Rapids Schmetzer said the team will ride him as long as we can. While he is a different striker from Morris who likes to run past defenders, Musoviski’s ability to find space in the goal box has obviously been successful. “ I don’t have to worry about Danny, “ Schmetzer said after the team’s practice session. “ He just got engaged , he is scoring goals and ready to go.”
