Full Jalen Milroe post draft transcript

The Seahawks’ final pick on Day Two of the 2025 Draft left the Seahawks front office with excitement. The selection of Jalen Milroe one of the most talented athletes in the draft gives the Seahawks some options on how to get him on the field. While Mike Madonald was adamant that the Seahawks drafted Milroe for his quarterback skills the team was aware of his ability to extend plays.

” Sam Darnold will get 90 % of the snaps, and it will be up to Jalen to earn his time on the field,” said Macdonald. The assumption here is that Milroe will see the field as soon as he is ready. Having the threat of Milroe at quarterback for any extended amount of time will add another element of surprise to the Seahawks’ offense and leave opposing defensive coordinators wondering if and when he will enter the game.

“Jalen is a quarterback through and through. He’s going to be trained to play quarterback for us. When he’s in there, he’s going to be playing quarterback. But the athleticism is going to come to life when he’s on the field. That’s how he’s going to help us, ” added Macdonald.

QB JALEN MILROE

Draft Day Two

April 25, 2025

(On what the wait was like to get drafted)

“I know going into this process, my ultimate goal was

to hear my name called and I was able to hear that today so that’s definitely a dream come true.

The best thing about it, I was gathered with family throughout this whole process. It’s definitely

a unique journey, for sure. I know where you can go, but it’s all about that right spot and I know

I’m in the right spot moving forward.”

(On why he says this is the right spot)

“Because I know this community of people that believe in

me, that’s all in on me. I felt that from the jump when I visited Seattle for my 30 visit and being

around the coaching staff. It’s great vibes so I just enjoyed my whole journey while I was there.”

(On his takeaway from the Seattle visit) “First off, I’ve never been to Seattle, Washington. The

previous staff at Washington raved about the city and talked about it. I’ve never been to that part

of the world so my first visit over there, I took it all in, number one. But also seeing the facilities,

seeing the coaching staff and meeting everyone. It was a great visit overall.”

(On his discussions with the coaching staff and his fit in the offense)

“No matter where I was

selected, I was going to have to learn the offense. That’s for any quarterback, no matter who you

are. I knew that going in and also the best thing for any rookie quarterback is to have a veteran in

the room. That’s awesome to have that going into this quarterback room. I’m just so super

excited for the new journey and new chapter in my life to be in Seattle.”

(On playing a role similar to Taysom Hill and playing a wildcat-type role)

“I’m coming in to

learn. Learn, grow and bring nothing but positive vibes to the offense. Fulfilling all that is a

necessity with my role on the team. Of course, once I get there, I’ll understand my niche for sure.

But ideally, I’m competing. No matter what day it is, no matter how many reps I get, I’m

competing for when an opportunity presents itself at the quarterback position.”

(On his greatest areas to improve)

“I think, first, throughout my timeframe playing football,

there’s always room for improvement, for any player. And I know that, playing the game of

football, playing sound and key to my reads, that’s when I’m at my best. I understand that and I

know that I’m going to be in the best situation with this coaching staff. I’m super excited.”

(On what his last season was like at Alabama with Kalen DeBoer) “I had so much fun last year. I

have no regrets from last season. I was surrounded by a lot of great coaches that poured

everything into our room. Also I have no regrets leaving this past season. But also this was

enjoying the process with the new staff. I was Coach Saban’s last quarterback and Coach

DeBoer’s first quarterback at Alabama so I have a unique journey as I went into my senior year.”

(On his experience under center after playing mostly in shotgun)

“Throughout my whole time

playing football, I’ve gone under center. Of course, rep-wise in games, it’s limited as it is to

playing in the NFL and you see max reps that any guy got under center throughout mytimeframe. It’s not going to be too much of a crutch going into the league, so I’m prepared for

it.”

(On his meeting with the Seahawks and what he thought they were trying to learn about him)

“The Seahawks knew I was the best quarterback in the draft. They emphasized that. And then

also with them getting to know me, it’s the mentality. One-on-one at the facility and just talking

ball as well. We just took it as an opportunity to get to know me, how I view X’s and O’s, what

drives me, all the process that comes with preparation. All those different things I was able to

talk to everyone on the staff about that.”

(On why he thinks this was the right place and why he thinks Seattle was in on him)

“Number

one, words of affirmation. Number two, the belief system of everyone there. That’s all it takes.

You walk differently, you play differently and you have an army behind you. And that’s what I

have. I’m super excited about it just knowing that I’m going into a culture that’s wanting to win,

that’s wanting to achieve great things and I’m going to bring that as a rookie and throughout my

whole time in Seattle.”

(On if he thinks he’s the best quarterback in the draft and if he has a message to the teams that

passed on him) “Belt to ass.”

(On how he was coached to go through his progressions and run when necessary)

“My second

passing touchdown against Western Kentucky, I went through a full progression and threw a

passing touchdown so I’ve done it before. There’s nothing I can’t do on a football field. Are

there things I can improve on? Absolutely. But, there’s nothing I can’t do on the football field.

I’ve thrown every type of touchdown, stepped up in the pocket, thrown on the run, going through

my progressions, I’ve thrown a check-down, I’ve used my legs. When you’re looking at it,

whatever you want on the field, I can do it. I say that humbly, it’s not arrogant. It’s more just

knowing what I bring to the table and knowing I bring a different dynamic when it comes to

being on the football field that I know I’m going to utilize in the NFL.”

(On what he learned about himself last year during some of the down moments)

“So I don’t think

too many people can say this but I can say this proudly: I’ve never lost a game back to back in

my entire life of playing football. Why I mention that is because of course you’re going to have

failure throughout your time playing football. But it’s all about how you regroup. How you

regroup from that adversity. And my theme of my whole life is next play mentality. Not leaning

on failures to drive me. That’s something that’s been emphasized with my whole time playing

football. And I emphasize that when it comes to week-to-week. One game doesn’t lead up to the

next game. No matter if it’s a win, no matter if it’s a loss, it’s about how you can regroup and be

the best version of yourself so that you can compete at the highest level. That’s necessary so that

you can win.”

(On if he’s still in Green Bay) “No, I’m in Houston.”

(On playing against Nick Emmanwori and having to gameplan for him)

“One thing is he’s

utilized all over the football field. So when you’re utilized all over the football field, that means

your special as the player that you are. And he knows that going into the league how good of aplayer he is, the size he has, the range that he plays with. It’s going to be great to be teammates

with him and be there together as rookies. Coming in and doing all that we can to help the team

out.”

(On if he stayed in Green Bay throughout the first round) “That’s right.”

(On what the experience was like staying in Green Bay for the first round)

“No matter where I

was drafted, I still have to come in and prove myself and earn the trust and respect of the guys in

the locker room. It wasn’t a necessity to hear my name called early on, later on. It doesn’t really

matter to me. It was more about hearing my name called because I knew that team was all in on

me. It’s all an opportunity. It didn’t really matter when I was selected.”

(On if he talked to Jalen Hurts or Tua Tagovailoa during the process) “Jalen Hurts for sure.”

(On what his conversations with Jalen Hurts were about) “It’s more of an intimate dialogue. But

that’s my guy. He’s someone that’s a supporter of mine. There’s something unique about the

Jalen’s, for sure.”

(On what are his strengths and weaknesses)

“Take less sacks, play on time and be me. That’s the

area of growth when it comes to being me. I know that I’m not one-dimensional at the

quarterback position. I’m a problem solver and I love football.”
