After splitting time with senior Will Rogers at QB in 2024, QB Demond Williams will lead the Huskies into 2025. During the 2024 season, coach Jedd Fisch brought Williams along slowly, allowing the freshman QB time to grow. Williams was effective as a situational QB and used his speed to give opposing defenses a different look. When Will Rogers struggled against UCLA (throwing two picks to start the second half), Demond Williams led the Dawgs on three consecutive scoring drives. As the Huskies went on to win the game 31-19. Williams then became the Huskies starting QB for the rest of the 2024 season.
Demond Williams started two games at QB in 2024 for the Huskies
As a true freshman, Demond Williams made two starts for the Huskies at quarterback. Williams first start came against Oregon, after his strong second half performance against UCLA. The Huskies offensive line was no match against the Ducks. As Williams was sacked 10 times in a 49-21 loss to Oregon. The Sun Bowl against Louisville went better for Williams. Williams threw for 374 yards, going 26/32, 4 TD (passing), 1 INT (which was a pick-six), ran for 48 yards, and had one rushing touchdown. He led the Huskies on a touchdown drive late in the 4th quarter, which ended with a failed two-point conversion, as the Dawgs fell just short of a comeback, losing 35-34.
What to expect from QB Demond Williams at the Spring Game
When Demond Williams takes the field at the 2025 Spring Game, he will be the presumptive starting QB for the Huskies going into the fall. Since he is the Huskies starting QB, more will be expected of Williams in 2025. Also, with Williams being QB1, what the Huskies do to protect him during the Spring Game will be interesting. Certainly the Huskies want to see how much he has matured and developed since last year. Though they also want to make sure he is healthy when the season starts this fall.
Three new QBs for the Huskies to evaluate besides Williams
While starting quarterback Demond Williams will be the focus of the Spring Game, two new QBs will also make their Husky debuts. One of them is freshman QB Dash Beierly, from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. Also, freshman QB Treston “Kini” McMillan is going make his first appearance in purple and gold. Another QB to watch at the Spring Game is Tulane transfer Kai Horton. At Tulane, Horton threw for 866 yards, with 6 TD, 5 INT, and had a 52.8% completion percentage.
