If it goes to plan, the Seattle Seahawks will face San Francisco with two new starters on the offensive side of the ball. On Wednesday afternoon, the team activated Abe Lucas from the PUP List, and DK Metcalf returned to practice after missing two straight games. While both were limited in participation, both have a realistic chance of playing in Sunday’s game at Levi Stadium.
LUCAS DEADLINE APPROACHING
The team moved the Lucas roster with the impeding 21-day return to practice window ending this week. Lucas was placed on the injured reserve list on August 27th. It’s been a long haul for Lucas, who started 16 games in 2022, his rookie season with the Seahawks after they drafted him in the third round. A knee injury cut his participation to just six games. After a long and arduous recovery, Lucas looks to be ready to give a boost to a struggling Seahawks offensive line.
DK METCALF CONTINUES TO PRACTICE
After sitting out two straight games, the Hawks are hoping for Metcalf’s return, the team’s most dynamic and explosive receiver.
Metcalf sat out the Bills, and Rams games due to a knee injury in the Seahawk’s win over the Falcons. In the contest, Metcalf leaped up to catch a Geno Smith ball that was thrown high and wide. Falcons Safety Justin Simmons pushed Metcalf out of bounds, and he landed awkwardly on his knee. Metcalf was asked about the injury
“ Not initially, but when D Hall (Derick Hall) got the scoop and score, and I was running down the sideline, I kind of felt it, and I said something to Strick (David Stricklin).” David Strickland is the head trainer for the Seattle Seahawks.
READY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
In his absence, the Seahawks wide receivers have shone. Jaxson Smith-Njigba recorded a career-high 182 receiving yards in the Rams game on November 3rd. Cody White had a career day in the same game. He set career marks in receiving yards (44 ), longest reception (28), and all-purpose yards (44). Wit White and Smith-Njigba having found their stride pMetcalf is ready to add another dynamic option to the Seahawks offense.
“I mean it just opens up the offense that much more, whether they’re having to double team, me and him (Jaxon Smith-Njigba) and Lock (Tyler Lockett) gets open or we were able to run the ball and Ken (Kenneth Walker III) gases them or Zach (Charbonnet) gases them for a long run. I think it just puts more pressure on the defense to have to cover all of our skill positions.”
Metcalf was also asked what impact Lucas’ return will have on the offense.
“I think Abe (Lucas) just brings a type of physicality and toughness to the offensive line, especially at the right tackle position. I think Mike (Jerrell) has done a great job, and George (Fant) has done a great job but Abe is just different in the way that he views the game and views the position and how he plays the position. So it’ll be fun just to have him back.”
To make room for Lucas on the 53-man roster, the Seahawks placed tackle George Fant on the injured reserve list.
