First up was the news of the team’s blockbuster trade. The Seahawks sent linebacker Jerome Baker and a 2025 fourth-round draft pick to the Tennessee Titans for linebacker Ernest Jones IV. While the deal was a straight-up linebacker for a linebacker, head coach Mike Macdonald said in a pre-practice press conference that the trade would shift the Seahawk’s linebacker lineup. According to Macdonald, Jones IV will play middle linebacker, and current middle linebacker Tyrel Dodson will move to weakside linebacker. Baker was the starting weakside linebacker before the trade.
“We are working through that right now. Probably have Ernest at Mike and have T-Dot (Tyrel Dodson) at the weak side right now,’ said Macdonald.
As for the type of player the Seahawks are getting in Jones IV, Macdonald was adamant about his Jones IV toughness and play-making ability.
.” But he’s a guy that I think when you look at kind of all fronts coming from John (Schneider) and our personnel people, our coaches, our experience with them, a guy we’ve had respect for a long time, just is an outstanding football player all the way around. I remember seeing him play in the Super Bowl is probably the first time he got on my map and just excited to get him here and get him rolling. By all accounts, a great person. Loves ball. Tough as nails. We’re excited to get him here. “

JONES IV FILE
Jone IV was drafted in the third round of the 2021 draft by the Los Angeles Rams were he spent the first three years of his NFL career. In 2023 his last season with the Rams Jones IV registered 145 tackles, 4.5 sacks , 58 blitz calls adn 14 pressures. In his first six games with the Titans this year JoneIV has 44 tackles one qarterback hit, and blitzed 13 times. At Tennesse Jones IV played for Titans defense coordinator Dennard Wilson who was the defensive backs coach last season at Baltimore where Macdonald served as the defensive coordinator.
OFFENSIVE LINE REINFORCEMENTS
The Seahawks opened the 21-day practice window for right tackles Abe Lucas and George Fant. Both players were placed on the injured reserve list with knee injuries. Lucas was injured in Week 17 against the Steelers last year and has been rehabbing to get back on the field.
“Yeah, I was joking with Abe; these are shoulder pads. It’s good to see him out there. Get a new teammate out there”, said Macdonald of Lucas’s return to the practice field. Fant injured his leg in week 1 and, like Lucas, spent time in the training room working to get back on the practice field. ” We are happy for both of them, and it’s good when you get guys back.”
OTHER ROSTER MOVES
The Seahawk’s other roster moves saw the team claim linebacker Josh Ross from the waiver wire. The Ravens waived Ross on Tuesday after spending the last three years with the team after being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022. Tackle Stone Forsythe was placed on injured reserve after missing last week’s game due to a hand injury.
