For the first since 1941, the Washington Huskies had two players selected in the top ten and three in the first round From the national perspective three Huskies going in the ten was a surprise. From a Husky Nation perspective Michael Penix Jr, Rome Odunze and Troy Fautanu played an integral part in the team playing for the National Championship against Michigan.
PENIX WILL HAVE TIME TO DEVELOP
A mirage of mock drafts had Odunze and Fautanu going in the first round and Penix in the second round. Well so much for pre-draft mock drafts. The Atlanta Falcons picked Penix with the 8th pick. The pick was somewhat of a surprise. Not that Penix Jr is not worthy of being picked so high. The Falcons spent big money on Kirk Cousins Penix Jr ties Jake Locker for the highest draft of a Husky quarterback.
The selection of Penix Jr raised eyebrows after the team signed the 35-year-old Cousins to a four-year $180 million contract with $100 million guaranteed. Cousins is coming off an Achilles injury. The drafting of Penix asks the question. How long will Penix be the backup to Cousins? Barring injury you would think two years max and one Cousins struggles and Penix quickly learns the Falcons system.
BACK-TO-BACK DAWGS

Rome Odunze being picked right after Penix by the Chicago Bears was a pleasant surprise for the former Huskies. Odunze will look to have a long and fruitful career with the Bears. The Bears had the first overall pick in the draft and used it on former USC quarterback Caleb Williams. There is no doubt Bears head coach Matt Eberflus envisions Williams and Odunze growing and prospering together.
SOLID LANDING SPOT
Like his teammates, Fautanu landed in the perfect spot. The utral versatile tackle is ready to step in and start according to several scouts Newly hired offensive coordinator Arthur Smith favors the run and it makes sense that the Steelers will insert Fautanu as a lead blocker for Najee Harris.

Rome Odunze was picked right after Penix Jr. The Bears used their second pick in the first on the former Husky standout. Odunze selection by the Bears makes more sense because they used the draft number one pick on USC quarterback Caleb Williams.
