Opening day is finally here, and hopes are high for the Seattle Mariners. The offseason admittedly started off disappointingly, as Jerry Dipoto and company got rid of the likes of Jarred Kelenic and Eugenio Suárez.
Morale was low among the fan base, especially as speculation emerged about the apparent financial limitations being imposed on Dipoto and the rest of the front office. Regardless, they managed to improve the roster by bringing in players such as Mitch Garver, Jorge Polanco and Gregory Santos.
The Mariners open their 2024 regular season at T-Mobile Park, with a four-game home series versus the Boston Red Sox. Here’s everything you need to know about the first game on Thursday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. PT.
Probable starting pitchers

Luis Castillo (0-0) – Last season saw Castillo continue to show why he’s one of the best starting pitchers in the Majors. He produced a 14-9 record in 33 starts, as he recorded a 3.34 ERA, 3.81 FIP and 1.096 WHIP. His 219 strikeouts were the second-most of his career, he set a new personal best with 197.0 combined innings and finished fifth in AL Cy Young voting.
Brayan Bello (0-0) – Bello gets the opening day start in just his third Major League season, which alludes to the belief and hope in him. Last season was his first as a full time starter for the Red Sox, as he went 12-11 in 28 starts. In the process he produced a 4.24 ERA, 4.54 FIP and 1.338 WHIP, with more expected from him in 2024.
